For Mother's Day we are hooking up with family that will be staying in Sunriver along Highway 97 just south of Bend. Can anyone recommend an area for boondocking where we can also find some trails for quad riding?
Thanks in advance for you input.

LaPine State Park is about 25 miles south of Bend. It's not dry camping, but the rates are very decent. FYI, we prefer Tumalo State Park about 2 miles north of Bend even though Tumalo doesn't have sewer or even a dump station.

I don't know diddly about the availability of trails for quad riding in the area, but I've seen plenty of quads for sale at the sportsmans stores, so there's got to be something going on.

There is a campground up in Newberry Crater on East lake that is drycamping or maybe just water hookups. La Pine is a good campground as well, we try to get there for a few days every couple years.

As for where you can ride your quads, no idea. Lots of national forest around there. Have to be careful or you can get in trouble.

Steve & CJ, Vans, and 6.7Cummins,
Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for.

2oldman, There are 30,000 posts on the boondocking forum and 690,000 posts on the travel trailer forum. You do the math.

There is a Thousand Trails that borders Sunriver. Full hookups. They are offering 2 nights free as a trial. Kind of sneaky....but you could call, get your two nights free....then say "no thanks".

Or....be legit....it is only $400 per year to join Thousand Trails and you get to stay at their parks for free as many times as you want.

Lehman Hot Springs is a couple hours east of that area. Pretty fun hang out. Boondocking and an ATV park less than a mile away.

There was snow in the coast range last week , pretty sure there was a lot more in the cascades. Do you have chains for your quads ?

There are multiple places nearby (well, depending on your definition of near) that you can boondock and quad right out of camp!
Unfortunately, I have never been to them, but I have looked them up many times. One of the few areas in the state I have not had a chance to ride, but there is a huge riding area in central oregon, Millican Valley. Go to oregon.gov (just search Oregon ATV) and you will find a lot of info.

I can tell you, Winhom-Frazier (Lehman Hot Springs) is awesome and there are several areas that you can boondock at. Also, even closer to the Bend area, is Morrow County ORV, which is awesome as well. Lots of areas there, but stay at the ORV park, it's cheap (like 10.00 a night) and helps to keep it open.
