I have a 30 AMP surge protector that goes between the campground plug and the trailer plug. I have had this unit since I bought my first trailer almost 8 years ago. This surge protector has worked great until the last year or so. Every time it rains now the protector trips and has to be reset. What do you think would be causing it and what do you think I should do to rectify the problem?

I take it you mean the campground receptacle and the trailer plug in.
If you have the pig tail type like I have, I cut a length of inner tube from a bicycle tube about 18" long and put the surge protector inside it to protect it from the rain.

I put all exposed electrical connections inside a plastic bag or under a plastic bucket to prevent issues with moisture.

I'd contact the Mfgr. see what they say? If they are stand-up, they may ask you to send it in for overhaul. My guess, it's developed a leak, and it shorts/trips when it rains. It's still doing it's job, but as you have noticed, it's a pain in the butt
Good luck, Happy Camping

Perhaps you can convert it to a permanent mount inside the RV and out of the elements? I did that with my autoformer.

Is it possible that the unit is doing it's job correctly and when it rains your rig is causing the true ground fault?
When I first bought my rig every time it rained the GFI would kick off in the bathroom which would then take out three outlets and the refrigerator.
The problem turned out to be a bad seal on the outlet on the outside of the rig. When it rained the water would run down the side and past the seal into the box causing a ground fault.

I don't think they are made to be water proof I think I read that on the instructions, When I plug mine in at the power post I always cover it with a black plastic bag and bungee cords, then I also don't have to worry about sprinkler systems at night also.
