Nbounder, now that sounds like a plan. Maybe tie something heavy on a line & send that down may work. Do a little jig action with it.
The vent clog sounds most logical. I am too careful with my use habits for somethng else.
Tomorrow is dump day, after 4 nights, we will see what happens.

nbounder wrote: Betcha you got something comfortably nesting in the vent system. That ol'timer's trick may work - drop an ice cube down each roof vent and listen for the splash. No splash usually means blocked vent system. Unless, of course, you have one of those inverted "L" dealies, like Yuba City has. A call to mfr's tech line (if they're still there) might guide you.
I never cease to lean new tricks on this forum. Never thought about dropping an ice cube down the pipe. Kinda sketchy pulling one out of my drink after handling the vent pipe cover. Maybe use the one hand for removing the vent cover and one hand for removing the ice cube.
I'm gonna work on that. Great idea even if it is unsanitary.

Remember that burp is methane gas. Very, very explosive.
The best way to unplug the vent is with a garden hose stuck down from the roof end. The ice cube will only tell you if it is plugged. The garden hose will unplug it. Best to drop your tank first so you can tell if any water comes out of the sewer hose.

Before you you work too hard or spend any money, try shutting off the fart fan before you flush. The fan can create a negative pressure in the room.

It is either full as stated or that is the sign of the perverbial poop pyramid. No biggie. You should be able to search up a lot of reading on the pyramid. I deal with one every couple of years or so.
It may appear normal for a while after you dump0 or that may be the problem all together.
betya it is not a vent problem

Another way to check for a blocked vent is to pour some water down the vent. If the vent fills up, it is blocked. BTW, its better to do this with the tank empty in case it is not blocked.

My two carriage friends were doing this on one carriage that seemed to have this problem. But after the water was going down the vent on the roof, water was dripping on the bed because the connections on the plastic pipe were not glued.

If they had a smell in their RV this could be the cause. Seems strange that the vent pipe would run over their bed. Mine runs straight up from the tank to the roof.

The mystery is not solved, however, after a routine dumping & a drop in altitude from over 4000' to less than 2000', the problem has mysteriously gone away.
