I was looking at Two Jack Main too, can anyone add more information about it?

park description with photo. Looks like a typical Canadian no-hookups campground, a bit more wooded and secluded than Tunnel Mtn I.

Thank you, I see it is limited to RV's under 27 feet, I guess that leaves us out.
Tunnel Mtn here we come.

Have stayed there twice, once in 2004, at Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court (gravel half moons)

We were right along Tunnel Mountain road, with this view from the campsite.

Last summer, overnighted at Tunnel Mountain Village II. (all blacktop, don't have a picture that's any better than the one posted earlier)

Would I stay at either again? Sure, as a day or two stop over for the Banff area. There are more rustic opportunities up north. Here's Lake Louise CG (not the trailer section)

Two Jack main is OK but watch out for mosquitos, we were there in early July 2002 and the mosquitos were so bad you could not venture outside!

Two Jack Lakeside is nice but fills up VERY quickly, get there early.

As the OP, just thought I would come back and say that we have booked 3 nights in Tunnel Mtn. Village #2, and then 2 nights at Lake Louise CG for early Aug. After we get back from the trip I will post some pics.

Thanks for all the input.

Now that out trip is over, I thought I would come back and provide closure...and comments (to help future campers searching for information).

We were very pleasantly surprised with how nice the Tunnel Mtn. campground in Banff was despite its VERY large size. There are 3 Tunnel Mtn. campgrounds, and we were in the one w/out hookups. We were assigned a nice corner space on loop K which provided a lot of privacy. The restroom/shower was close...but not too close ;-) When we arrived at the site we were surprised to have it 'pre-loaded' with firewood, which was almost enough to last us the 3 nights we spent there. This was a good central location for sightseeing in the Banff area. (For WIFI we drove up to the Starbucks at the gondolas...it was free and a fun/scenic little outing.) I highly recommend this campground and plan to return in the future!!!

Our review of the Lake Louise campground (hard sided) is not as glowing, although not 'horrible'. If you can conjour up the image of sardines in a can, then that pretty well describes this campground. Each site shares a driveway with another site. Our 5er and the one next to us almost touched slideouts, and we could hear their heater come on/off all night long (despite having our little 'white noise' fan on). And on our door/awning side, our fire pit was about 30ft away from the next site over...with no privacy barrier of any kind between. We did have a nice couple (and young child) from Germany in a rental RV there, and after watching them try to roast marshmallows on a stick loaned them one of our telescoping metal skewers. We chose this campground because of better proximity to the icefields and we wanted to see Lake Louise, the hotel, etc. So in that regard it was fine...but in hindsight it might have been 'nicer' to stay in Banff and just drive back and forth.

I got a kick out of the bear situation. In Banff they say to just keep your food in your car or RV and out of site. In Lake Louise there is an electric fence around the campground for tents, and in the 'hard side' campground you are also told to keep food in the car or RV. I guess the bears in California have not told the bears in Canada how to break into cars (which we heard happen at a site close to ours in Sequoia Nat'l park a few weeks ago)

Link to a couple of pics each from Banff and Lake Louise campsites

Thanks to all for then input,

Steve

We were just at Tunnel Mountain Trailer Park. 2/3 is closed for construction so tough to get in to if you do not have a reservation.

We just returned from a cross country tour and spent 5 days at Tunnel Mountain Trailer campground with full hook ups. The view from about 200 yards from our sight was spectacular. Also we walked down the hil to Banff Village, about 45 min. walk to see the sights and great coffee houses in Banff. What a nice town. Also Tunnel Mountain Road is great for spotting wildlife. I don't remember if we had a fire pit, but we don't use those very much. Also the campground in the area we stayed in was being worked on, I think they were upgrading a large area of the campground. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Tunnel Mountain Trailer Park is great, right?

About 2/3 of the full hookup area is under construction.

We also do not use a fire pit but I don't think they have them; might be a fire ban in the area as well, not sure.

We were there on 9/11/2001 as well.

Another thing about the Lake Louise campground is fire pits. We didn't understand how you could buy one in advance...or not. Well, each site has a firepit, but for an extra fee you can actually use it ;-) And the firewood is free so we thought it was worth it.
