We don't need hookups, but we would like to 1) make a reservation somewhere, and 2) have a firepit (that qualifies Tunnel Mtn).

In the pics I've seen of Tunnel Mtn. it looks more like an RV park than a campground...and what is the difference? I don't know. I guess an RV park has neat rows with not much privacy, and a campground has randomness and at least has some trees and/or rocks between you and your neighbors.

Thanks

Steve

The forest in Tunnel Mtn (non-rv part) is pretty open, so there isn't a lot of privacy. Same for Lake Louise (the part behind the bear fence). Part of the openness intentional, to reduce fire risk.

If you want good privacy try BC provincial parks in the wetter parts of the province.

We stayed at Tunnel Mt in '08 in the section where you park on the blacktop with W/E hook-ups(RV park)but no fire rings. Doesn't sound very good but oh, the view. Adjacent to that section was a wooded section in the trees. Much more privacy and woodsy (CG). I think those sites had full hook-ups. All Tunnel Mt. I think it is separated as Tunnel MT Trailer Village 1 and 2. Sorry, I can't remember which is which. You can't go wrong.

I definately found it to be a "parking lot" when we were there with 2 tent trailers, but with our current 5th, it would probably be a pretty nice place to park at the end of the day.

Here is a photo of Tunnel Mtn 11 in Banff. Believe the sites in this area only have electricity. But there is a nice sani-dump station on the way out. (double or triple) We found it to be a great place to stay for a night or two. Nice clean showers with lots of hot water. It is somewhat unique in the layout but it is a huge campground and the layout makes it seem smaller to me. One nice feature for us is there is never anyone close or either side of us. Our view from our pickup camper is out the side so having others in front and behind doesn't effect our view. The sites are long as well.

There are tree rows and terraces separating the different rows of RVs.

Thanks everyone, and especially Joe B. for the pics (a picture is worth 1,000 words!). For a night it looks like it work fine, but for 'camping' for 3-4 nights it does look too much like a...well, a parking lot (albeit a parking lot with a GREAT view!)

Thanks

Tunnel mountain has a nice NON hook up campmping area with fire pits.

Overall they are quite nice given it is a tourist area and does NOT resmeble the parking lot rV park side as noted in the pics above. They are back in sites with your own 'area' as a traditional campground has.

As for an 'outside' spot on the loops to get a liitel nicer/private spot and you will be good. Spent a week there last September Loop H I beleive, 12 non hook up loops only 1 open was that late in the year, it was awesome!

If you have any particular questions calberry just PM me. I live an hour and a half from there...

Tunnel Mountain has several different areas. The T.M. Trailer park has full hookups and the sites are 'banana- shaped' pull-throughs off the access roads which are terraced with forest between the terraces. WE were there for a week last September attending the Park Warden Alumni gathering and, although we did not use it, I believe there was a fire-pit at our site.
