I drove from Charleston SC to Orange Co. and we took a long 5 days with out a trailer. Between rr stops and gas and motels and meals and driving about 70 most of the way the one part of your statement would be out of the question, seeing things, If you have it take your time make it a 10 day trip each way if you can other wise I would fly.

Coast to coast is a seven day trip towing a trailer that includes a level of safety and comfort, and longer to add some enjoyment to the experience…

We are taking a little more than 3 weeks but we are not sight seeing on the way. We are going to take our time going home and do it then. I just wanted to make sure I was allowing enough time to get there. Thanks for all the tips and advice. Keep them coming!

Our experience has been that we generally plan on 300 mile days when we're running casually, 500 mile days when we are in 'cross-country mode'. Driving an RV is more strenuous than driving a car which means you are going to get tired faster. Speaking of faster - if you go much over 60, you'll be running a high risk of tire problems. Also, as you get east of the middle, the speed limits wiil drop & enforcement will increase.

IMHO, if you give yourself just 6-7 days you're not going to get to the church on time.

FYI, I we drove from SF TO Chicago in 2 days a few years ago so we're not bashful about picking them up & putting them down.

My wife is worried we won't make it in time. Someone at her work told them it took them 3 days only stopping to switch drivers but this seems slow to me (and google).

This is correct, it will take about 2-1/2 to 3 days if you drive day and night with 2 drivers. Stopping for gas, minimum restroom breaks and meals does eat up a surprising amount of time when factored into these Hammer-down cross country marathon trips.

If your both not up to rotating driving so you can keep moving along full-time day and night and with pull'in a trailer, I'd allow 6 days.

It's a big country to cross! Even with 6 days you'll only have time to sleep at night. Waking hours you'll need to be driving.

PS
I will take any and all sugestions as to what we "MUST" see while back on the east coast in DC area. We may also make it up to NY then from there to Iowa to visit my sister and drop my mom off.

Hmmmm there's a long list of things to pick from in that area, but my "Must" see would be.

1. Washington DC, White House, Capitol, Monuments and Smithsonian Museums 3 to 4 days

2. Williamsburg 1 to 2 days

3. Gettysburg 1 day

I just made this trip from Okie City to Triangle area and it was 1350 miles. I took three days and did not stop except for fuel, restroom, and meals. I drive 8 to 10 hours a day. You can easily double my time and probably should take 7 days.

300 miles a day is a long day to us. Remember, you have to break down and set up. Cook, etc. We are on our last leg for this trip and are going from Dallas to Spokane. We are planning 300 mile days and are dreading it. We really like 200-250. I know that that doesn't sound like very many miles, but it is a nice drive and leaves lots of time to not have to rush. I don't think you will want to go more than 400 miles and that is a long day.

Back in 2005 we made two trips to Texas towing our 24 foot T.T when our son and daughter got through basic training in the air force. If I remember right it took about 3 or 4 days each way by the time you drive 400 miles towing a trailer in 8 hours IMO you will be ready to stop for the night. I think if it were me I would plan on 6 or 7 days as I am sure you see something you want to check out.
Good luck and have a good trip.

I graduated from a 1,000 miles a day when I was young and didn’t have the time, to 500 miles a day when I realized I was to tired to enjoy all the time I saved, to 400 miles when I realized there is a comfort zone that was worth the added time…

Now that I am old I find that comfort zone is flexible and doesn’t always accommodate schedules well… so I drive at a comfortable pace, enjoy the ride, stop when the enjoyment starts to wane even a little, and over night is almost a thing of the past, with three night and more stays commonplace…

But if I had to be someplace on a schedule today, I would plan on 400 miles days max… that allows for reasonable speeds, reasonable break times, and a reasonable level of comfort…
