My trailer is parked on a double lot (I own) in a campground that received 200 inches of snow and was declared a national disaster!! It's an '07. My ceiling sunk a 1 and 1/2 inches from the weight and 2 of my interior walls are bulging!! Problem is the original estimate is over $15,000, but my replacement costs on my policy is $42,494!! My agent wrote it as a mobile home since we don't move it. I simply don't want it repaired, however I owe $30,000 on it!! I do have over $8,000 additional living expenses on my policy~which would pay for a RV rental during repair time....which I told best case scenario is 3 weeks!! Please HELP!!

If replacement is 42+ and repair is 15 I doubt that they would ever write it off, at least where I am they wouldn't.
Post pics and let us know what is happening.

I don't think it's up to you weather it gets replaced or not. It's up to them. If they can make it right and it's within their numbers..it will probably get fixed.

The ONLY person who can give you competent advice is your insurance agent. He/she should know everything there is to know about your policy and the company who wrote it.

As long as you are made whole for the loss, they have lived up to their obligation… I do think they would be responsible for any and all reasonable living expenses while the repair is being completed if the repairs were not completed in a reasonable time through no fault of yours… how much is owed is of no concern to them…

Most have given reasonable responses to your question. It is the insurance companies option to repair or replace.
One thing that has me concerned, however, is that your agent wrote it as a mobile home. I don't know what kind of RV you have, I assume some kind of travel trailer, but I can't believe your agent was able to get it underwritten as a mobile home if it is, indeed, an RV. An RV typically would not qualify, based on construction methods and local statutes defining what is a 'house' (vs an RV), for coverage as a mobile home. An RV policy would not typically provide for living expenses during repairs. If the agent bound the coverage and took your money, however, the company would be 'stuck', regardless. My concern is, they are now aware of exactly what it is, will you still have coverage as a mobile home?
As insurance is regulated at the state level your local statutes may allow your RV to be classified as a 'mobile home'. Likewise, perhaps your insurance company has different underwritting standards than I'm familier with. In either case, it would be good for you to confirm whether or not you will be allowed to continue with your current policy, or if you will need to change it.

First sorry for the damages to your trailer! I would disagree that only your insurance agent knows everything, to many agents don't know everything. I would call the insurance company that underwrote your policy directly if I had any questions whatsoever!
As for you not wanting to keep it if they repair it vs replace it, unfortunately that's not up to you. You will have to allow them to do the repairs for however long it takes to complete the repairs. As someone else said all the insurance company is responsible for is repairing damages or calling it a total loss, which according to your numbers, it is NOT a total loss.
Goodluck!!

No insurance company in their right mind would write off a 15,000 repair in favor of 42,000 in claims. Their legal responsibility is to put you back in the condition you were in before, not a much better one. Sorry but if you don't want to use it that's your call. Get it repaired and sell it and buy another new one if you want to. Might be your best option. You MIGHT want to count it fortunate they didn't call it an "act of god" and not pay anything.

There are other options… you can take the 15,000 and do the repairs your self, then trade it… or you might be able to trade it and pay the 15,000 toward it and roll the other 15,000 into a new loan on a replacement (not recommended)…
But you best bet is to just get it repaired… if its done right it should be fine…

Bummer... Really, that just sucks. Honestly, if you are really that concerned, then I would recommend contacting an attorney that specializes in insurance. It might be worth the $150.00 for an hours worth of advise. Really, calling your agent or your insurance company is only going to get you the information you already have. They have made their decision.
You might find out you are stuck, or you might find out some other option that is available... Heck, since it was declared a disaster, there might even be some other options available to you?
No matter what, sorry this happened and good luck, I hope things work out in the end for the best!
