We just purchased a 2008 Jayco Designer 35RLTS. The furnace lites but then will go out. Can someone tell me how to access the furnace on this unit. The water heater has access from the outside and I have found the exhaust port for the furnace. What am I missing? We bought from a private seller and they said that they had never used the furnace. So I am assuming it just needs cleaned. The stove and oven work fine so I don't think there is air in the lines.

Also found out that when the first owner sold the unit then Jayco voids their warranty no matter how much time is left on the 2 year contract. I tried to get them to tell me why but all I got was it is Jayco policy.

How many times have you tried starting the furnace? I had similar trouble with my water heater and it took 10 tries before it finally started working. And everything else was working just like your rig. After it started, it has worked fine ever since.

May sound silly, but if you have two propane tanks, have you tried using one and then the other. I developed a problem with my furnace starting up, then kicking out...both tanks were full, (I have one on each side of the 5er)...I turned the one off and turned the other one on, started the furnace and it kept running. After a little more checking, found flex hose connecting one tank to the other had gotten a kink in it to some degree, furnace not getting full pressure. I fixed it and furnace has worked fine since...just a thought because that one really caught me off guard. The stove and burners worked fine, but the furnace wouldn't stay lit...learn something new everyday..I just forget two "old things"

Let us know when and how you fixed it if you don't mind.

If you decide to work on the furnace, you need to remove the furnace from inside the trailer if you have no outside access door. The actual furnace is inside a metal box and the box stays in place. You turn off the propane at the tanks, disconnect the propane line at the furnace and then disconnect approx. four wires at the side of the furnace.

Two wires will be the 12VDC hot and ground and the other two wires are usually blue and are for the thermostat. Keep in mind that the 12VDC hot wire is hot (12VDC) so pull the proper fuse before you begin or be careful and put the wire nut or electrical tape over the end of the hot wire coming from the fuse.

There is a lot going on (circuit wise) to make a furnace run, so I always test the furnace before I put it back in. If you have a propane source and a 12V battery, you can run the furnace with it sitting on the ground.

First lets make sure you know how the furnance is supposed to work, as it is different than a house furnance.
1. The thermostat calls for heat.
2. The blower in the furnance starts blowing cold air.
3. After a few minutes, the gas burner ignites.
4. The air from the heater vents gradually starts to warm.
5. The air from the heater vents blows warm air heating the RV.
6. The themostat is satisfied and calls for the furnance to shut off.
7. The gas burner turns off.
8. The blower in the furnance continues to blow until the airfrom the heater vents cool.
9. The fan shuts off.

Before you take anything apart make sure your battery is fully charged. The fan motor uses 12 volts for power. There is a safety switch called a sail switch that compltes the control circuit. The blower must push enough air to close that in order to work. Furnace will cut of in about a minute if not working right.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. And special thank you to Wayne_tw.
You must have put in some serious research in on this subject.
What if a furnace only does 1. 2. 3. & 7.,but not 4. 5. 6. 8. or 9.???
OK Wayne now don't get ahead of me now. Let me see, could the furnace not functioning properly?

Maybe I should rephrase my question. Is there anyone that owns a Designer 35 RLTS or has worked on one that can tell me how to access the furnace on this model?

I've never been inside of this trailer, but looking at the floorplan and pictures I can conclude the following:

The inlet vents for the furnace are mounted on the facing of the stairs leading up to the bathroom/bedroom. The furnace is going to be very close to the location of these inlets and to the outlet on the left side of the trailer. Based on the location of these two items I would expect the furnace to be mounted beneath the floor in this location of the trailer. I would suspect it is accessible from the right side storage compartment. How do you access the bypass valves on the back side of the hotwater tank to winterize it? I have to suspect these are accessed from the left side storage compartment.

I have a 2008 Jayco 35RLSA and we can get to our furnace through the bottom storage unit. Our back wall pannels slide out of the way and you would remove the side pannel by the water heater by taking out a couple of screws. If your furnace is by your water heater look in this area. ggardne2, We have a small door to access our bypass valve.

Closed. There is a thread running just for this trailer. Look here: http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/21206905.cfm
