I have a real problem. I cleaned the bugs off the front cap using techniques described on this forum. The bugs came off fairly easy.

My problem is the stains left behind. I tried Simple Green with no luck. I went to O'Reillys Auto Parts and bought the most expensive bug and tar remove. It did not touch the stains.

Does anyone on the forum know of a chemical that will remove the stains without damaging the front cap?

Thanks in advance for your help.

This is a long shot. Try using dryer sheets with water. I know it works on cars. I doubt the dryer sheets would hurt your gel coat.

Good luck.

If all else fails, try rubbing compound. You'll have to rewax afterward.

I use dryer sheets and "Bug Bust". Bug Bust does help in removing the stains.

I had to use Brasso (metal polish) on mine, it did a good job but I also had to wax it again. If you keep a good quality wax on your rig, bugs will be easier to clean in the future. If you try the Brasso, check a small hidden area first since finishes are different.

I use dryer sheets and they work well, but I don't think they would remove a stain. The finish must be a little oxidized if you are getting stains. I wouldn't want to suggest what to try, but I can tell you be extremely careful what you do use. I ruined the gelcoat on a cap using an automotive bug and tar remover! It etched into the finish and not eve wax helped it anymore.

Totally Awesome cleaner the best for all kinds of stains including bugs. This stuff works and its only $1. try it. I went to Maine last summer and they have bugs as big as birds. I washed the camper with wash and wax (You can get it at walmart) It took off 90% then i used Totally awesome and not a trace of a bug.
A little side note i used it on my aluminum wheels that were looking a little dingy. I was almost scared that it cleaned them so well. Like NEW. Give it a try its only a Dollar.

get it at the Dollar tree

Dryer sheets can work because they're abrasive (like fine sandpaper). I've always had good luck with Dow bug and Tar remover. Using something that's been formulated expressly for the purpose is ALWAYS better than concocting something.
