Urban Dictionary has it right:

Quote:

Trolling is the act of purposefully antagonizing other people on the internet, generally on message boards. When done in a moderated internet community, this can result in banning. When done to uptight people such as insertname, this can result in hilarity.

Trolling is trying to get a rise out of someone. Forcing them to respond to you, either through wise-crackery, posting incorrect information, asking blatantly stupid questions, or other foolishness. However, trolling statements are never true or are ever meant to be construed as such. Nearly all trolled statements are meant to be funny to some people, so it does have some social/entertainment value.

"Trolling" isn't simply "harmful statements". Intentionally insulting/libelous statements are "flaming".

Just as bad as trolling is "Feeding the Trolls". This is when people say stuff that they know will prompt someone to respond with a trolled reply and/or replying to comments that are blatantly from a troll. This is especially true when a troll first makes his comment/reply, and (usually many) people respond, either trying to correct the troll, or express anger at the statement. At that point, the trolling was successful and has been fed. When encouraged by success and feeding, trolls often return.

No no, Trolls taste like rattle snakes, which taste like chicken?!?!?!?!?

or some such thing........

Reality is, many of us at some point could be considered troll, or have done trolling questions, some just do it ALL the time. Some look at a question, and go "is this real? or are you serious? some like the toyota quesions, gas vs diesel, 8 lugs vs 5 or 6 lug rigs, even the dually vs SW use in 8 lug trucks draws out a war!

It does not matter the forum type, could be the different sections here. or go to a kite flying, rock climbing, a true fishing forum, boat forums, ie sail oriented, or trailer oriented......all have someone that will troll or equal.

Is it okay if I set up my bbq and chairs in a Walmart parking lot. I already put out my slides and awning on my 32' TT that I tow with my Chevy Venture Minivan. The reason I ask, is because the kid that puts away the shopping carts, came over to ask me to pick up after my dogs. While he was talking to me he told me I could park and sleep here but I could not "set up camp" like this. You should have seen him run when I showed him my 9mm. That will teach him to walk across my campsite!

Whatever happened to that clown? He was great with the 2wd vs. 4wd debate.

Oh he is still here. Still making the same 3 statements.

Diesel fuel is messy.
4WD is only needed by farmers
I wish I really did have a supercharger

And the guy from Northern Ontario and his Toyota that haul any 5er made.

It is really him isn't it? There is no way someone could be that dead on. Frankie is alive and well as "bendmore". There was one other guy like him, I think his name is William or Sir William or something like that. He was about 50% of frankie.

I think you actually pointed the frankie/bendmore thing out before ib, I just thought you were kidding around.

Frankie lives!!!
