Prepping for a tow'd, but now just bought 2 foldable aluminum bikes for touring close in.
If we want to go further than a mile or so, we can turn the key and go. That is an advantage of a 23.5' class C, if you are generally 'on the move'. We like to keep things as simple as possible if we are moving alot-which we seem to do.
IF, we decide to just go somewhere and drop our anchor for a weekend or month or ?, then the option of a tow'd is something we will have covered in advance.
We can tow 6000 lbs but just bought a Hyundai Elantra Touring Man. Trany.@ 3000 lbs./ and tow bar. Next is braking system. still researching.

We spent yesterday with a young couple/family/ who have visions of a Class A with all toys in tow. Could not get across the concept of KISS travel. Can't imagine how many places we could not enjoy if our rig was too long for some simplicity, but do have memories of difficulties even at our size and nothing hitched on.

Does anyone tow a Mazda Miata?

I have towed a 2000 5-speed Miata over 30,000 miles in the past 4 years. The Miata is great to tow and even greater as you come zipping into the RV park with the top down and get admiring looks from others climbing out of their Saturns and Jeeps.

I have helped over a dozen others to tow their Miatas and am very familiar with what needs to be done and with sources of tow equipment.

PM me with any questions. I'll be glad to help.

This is a great thread. I have been trying to decide if I could tow my 06 Sebring Convertible behind our 02 Winnie Minnie. And this thread has given me great confidence.

It will require a tow dolly to make this work for us.

Quick question. Any one using a tow dolly, are you using one with or without brakes? With or without wiring toad's lights to the RV's?

Thanks again for the thread.

1. Yes.
2. 1995 Tioga 29H on a Ford E350 chassis
3. At the present time, 2006 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited, mildly modified. This will soon change. I have no idea what it weighs, and don't care. I use an inexpensive A-frame adjustable width towbar and magnetic lights.

Over the last 10 years, I've averaged 7.8 MPG towing and 8.2 MPG not towing!
I've broken down too many times in 55+ years of camping, to be without a tow'd (cell phones don't reach everywhere).

You know using the toad for breakdowns didn't even enter into 'my' mind until it happened. First you go thru all the what now as you pull off the road like in the old days before the toad......then a lightbulb goes off...no problem, put the dogs in the Toad, go to a motel, watch some cable and let the mechanic figure it all out!

I was VERY fortunate to find a mint 4x4, 4 door, Tracker. seats 5 and still has a storage area behind the back seat, weighs in at 3,200. I gotta admit on the straight aways I DO forget its back there!

I manage on the straight aways to get 11 mpg on the V10 towing, the key with the V10 is to hold it steady at 55 mph go over 55 mph by 1 mph and your mpg goes down the drain!

Howdy folks-

Just my 2Cents. I recently purchased a 1994 Callista Cove 28' MH with 38k miles. The beast has a 7.5l Ford V-8. We recently moved from Maryland to Guaymas Mexico to help out at an orphanage. My wife had stuffed the RV full, I mean FULL, and we were also towing a 14' dual axle covered trailer full of furniture. I was amazed at how well the vehicle handled, even on some bad and very narrow Mexican "highways" with no shoulder. I had no stabilizer bars or anything, just smart packing. After 3,000 miles in two weeks, I bid you a good night.
