I recently looked at a class A motorhome being sold by a private individual. It had a salvage title. He says the salvage title came from it being stolen and than reposessed.
To my limited knowledge of salvage titles they are put out to protect the person buying the vehicle from getting stuck with a wrecked and than rebuilt vehicle. He swears the MH has not been wrecked and if a MH has been stolen it must be listed as a salvage vehicle.
I looked it over real well and could not find any repaired damage.
So to be safe I had it inspected by a body and frame mechanic and he said the only thing he could find was the clear coat was coming off of the lower outside shell.
I thought maybe someone here would have knowledge of salvage titles.
The MH was stolen in Oklahoma and reposessed in Illinois. Than returned to Oklahoma and sold by the insurance company under a salvage title. The insurance company had already paid off the original owner.

Call the OK Dept of Motor Vehicles (or whatever the licensing bureau in OK calls itself) and verify the seller's story. Know also that you will wind up with a salvage title which might make it more difficult to sell. Of course, if you plan to keep it a long, long time, that might be irrelevant.

If they had to repair the coach for more than the coach was worth ?

These insurance companys will call it a total & pay it off.

Then they sell the frame or stripped down vehicle.

Trying to get some of their money back.

If you are paying cash buy it !

Liability insurance only ?

You like the coach ?

Salvage vehicles is a booming business, and yes some banks will loan on them. The TT we have is a salvage but we bought it from the salvage auction my brother-in-law is a dealer. I think banks usually loan no more than 60 or 70% of what kelley blue book or or nada guide is worth. Every vehicle we own is salvage except for the 07 Suburban I drive. Good luck.

Could also be that it was standing in water if the lower shell is showing signs of delaminating finish

Just a thought

My In-laws bought a TT that had a salvage title, it was the same as the one you're looking at, it had been reported stolen and was recovered 6 months later.
Banks will loan money on a salvage title vehicle, as stated, just not as much.
The best way to tell why it has a salvage title is to carfax it, carfax will tell you all you need to know.

A "salvage title" can be issued for a LOT of reasons, not just damage in excess of value.
You should talk to YOUR bank or credit union about financing, and YOUR insurance company about insurance. That way, you will get TRUE statements about what they can and will do for you. ONLY the companies YOU normally deal with mean anything to YOU!

While I appreciate the info that is being offered, no one has touched on the question I have. I'm not good with words so I will spell it out and hope I don't hurt someones feelings.
Are stolen Motor Homes issued salvage titles if they are not damaged beyond there prestolen condition?
I know about the Banks and insurance companies. I just need to know if this guy is lying to me about why it has a salvage title.
Carfacs says the only info they have on the MH is that it was sold at an insurance aucthon. I already knew that. Thats where the present owner bought it.
