Seriously considering one and probably the 1390 for lane info but wondering if the 5 inch screen is that much difference in the next model up, 1450. Don't really think I need Bluetooth as I have that but maybe...
BIG question is reception in my Tiffin Phaeton. Anybody experience reception issues with either of these models or general reception issues with Garmin? Thanks.

I have my Garmin in front of the speedometer on my motorhome and on the console of my toad and it continues to find the satellites and give direction. They have come a long way from the early GPS units.

Thanks hershey, i might have stumbled on some old threads but don't want to have to run an antenne. Was hoping with the large windshield that any modern unit would pick up the signal.

My Garmin Nuvi is sittin on the desk next to me right now in the sticks and bricks. It has four out of five bars for satellite reception. These new gps units have amazing receivers. We sell some tracking devices that are sensitive enough to be strapped under the dash of most vehicles. I am astonished seeing the improvements over the years. Worst case the Nuvi has an option for an external antenna. I have never needed it though.
What I don't like is the battery life. Unplugged they go dead quickly. The original battery was so bad I ordered a new one within a couple of months. This week the battery died completely after about a year so I was a bit frustrated and opened it up and took note of the voltage. Low and behold it is the same voltage as my cell phone. I had to do some soldering and now I need a new cell phone battery but I know where to get one of those.
I really like the large screen.

Well that just dandy so they don't even have a power cord so you cen plug them into a DC power outlet? You're kidding me. My CB doesn't need batteries and these too are made for semi permanent instalation in vehicles. Unbelievable. Rethinking this program if that is the case. Thanks.

They have DC power cords. I have a NUVI 855 and it works just fine. Plug it into the 12 volt outlet and it works all day.

I have a Nuvi 350 that is several years old and once charged the battery stil last 3.5 to 4 hours and like previusly stated they have a car charger cord so no problem at all with battery life.

unless I was getting one of those pocket sized for hiking GPSs I wouldn't worry much about the battery life myself.

I just purchased a new Nuvi and it came down to the 1390 or 765T. Went with the 765T based on the reviews that were out there. I agree with The Texan, GPS Magazine website is a great resource, check it out.
