That said, I see at least 3 campgrounds/RV parks right off I-10 at Ft. Stockton.
Yup, and two of them are about $12 a night.

Most of you will save a couple bucks by not having to run the generator, so the net cost is somewhere between $5-$8, or about what it costs to drive 15 miles down the road. I do agree with your post about the rudeness of some people and how they take Walmart's generous hospitality for granted. I'll bet the store managers in cities where parking overnight at Walmart is prohibited are a happier lot than those who have to contend with RV's strewn all over their parking lots and the attendant trash, dripping fluids and dog poop they have to deal with.
Because a CG doesn't want me rolling in at 3am with a big diesel, only to start up and leave at 7am.

LOL, and I definitely agree with you. But this is the wrong thread. The same holier than thou people would be complaining in a thread about inconsiderate people in campgrounds.
Not everyone stops at 5pm in time for happy hour around the campfire. It's just not practical or even possible to arrive at most campgrounds after 10pm, and no one is ever happy with a very early morning departure.

Doggone it!!! How inconsiderate of WalMart not to have nice level spots for those owners who don't know how to level their rigs.
So you're saying because you're too lazy to level your rig in an out of the way space, to hell with everyone else Have I got a scoop for you....It's NOT all about YOU...!!!....What arrogance......Dennis

If I'm stopping for 5 or 6 hours of sleep while I'm on the road I definitely will not pay for the swimming pool or the kiddie amusement toys at a RV park. If they would give me a price for no hookups and no frills then I might consider stopping there. But then it would probably upset some people who are trying to sleep while I'm trying to back in and that would just give someone else a chance to complain on this format. Ya, thinking about it, I will probably just keep on stopping at Walmart.

The few times we've ever camped anywhere other than a campground was when something prevented us from reaching a campground during their office's normal hours of operation. I had to either stop or risk falling asleep behind the wheel. With that said, we have been able to "bookmark" a few campgrounds that have provisions for late night/early morning arrivals. And we're always looking for others. I haven't noted that information being in the Campground Directories, but it would be nice if it were.

The majority of RVs are financed to the hilt! Most owe more than the value of the RV. You save 7 cents on green beans to.

I have stayed in that parking lot. It is small parking lot however I was off in the corner with the other rver's. As a matter of fact it was the first Walmart we stayed at. I did not feel cramped and it seemed that when I was there everyone parked in a courteous mannor. As a matter of fact when I asked the manager at 1:00am they told me to park wherever I wanted. I guess the manager of that Walmart just does not care. The way I look at it is this way, if I want to stop and get a few hours of sleep for free then I am getting what I pay for.
If someone puts their slides out then that is there choice, who am I to say its right or wrong, as long as they are not violating any Walmart policys and are not blocking or in a driving lane then really what is it hurting.
But if you stay at a free place you need to remember you are getting what you pay for, a bunch of people that may or may not care. I think most of the people that are on this forum care and would try to be as considerate as possible but really what complaint do you have, its not like you are paying for the space.

Paying for the night should be obvious. By the way I have paid for every night I stopped over.
We do tend to visit Walmart when we are out, but only to purchase provisions for the night.
Boy there is one in every crowd.. I would like to have a Dollar for every time I've heard that comment.. Again, the reason most of us stay in a Wal-Mart.. #1 We got in late and don't want to wake people up in a CG.. #2 Its handy, most are right off the interstate.. #3 we need some suppies plus a rest stop.. #4 Its FREE, and handy.. Oh I could go on but you wouldn't understand..
And yes, "most" of us take care, and park out of the way of the local shoppers.. Good Day...!

I have never stayed at Walmart, YET. When we retire and go to either full timer or most-of-the timer status, I can see staying at a Walmart to catch a few hours shut-eye.
When our kids were younger, like babies, we stayed at campgrounds and had to deal with late arrivals and early bird departures. Did nothing but wake the babies up and cause stress.
Is it really necessary to start that rattling diesel for 1/2 hour before you pull out of the site? It gets even better when the family is squalling and fighting as they are getting ready to go.
