Sorry for the long post... Looking for Ford 2010 4x4 crew, currently own chevy 2500hd ext cab 6.0L. I tow a Cougar Xlite TT 6-8 times a year, trips are usually 3 hours or less, could be both highway and local roads. Live in PA. TT creates a lot of drag, weighs 8,000lb loaded, 840lb tongue weight, 28ft long, over 10ft high. Truck usually carries 2 adults, 2 kids, bikes, lots of firewood, etc.
Debating over 150 w/ max tow or 250SD.
Concerned with gvwr, F150 sway control (heard horror stories of SC on Chevy Denali).
Would love to get F150 but want to make sure I have enough truck to control my TT.
Thoughts, opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Bigger is always better, as most folks want to keep the truck next time they trade in their old trailer for a new one. Plus the F250 will tow like a champion Percheron vs a Shetland Pony!

little story for you, I used to have a chev 1500 and was always adding air bags or what have you to make it tow better, friend told me I should have bought a 3/4 ton and he was soooo right. I now have a 2500hd CC and it is just so much better at towing my TT and I haven't had to add anything to make it tow better other than the WDH and sway

My advice would be to get the F-150 in the HD model. PLENTY of truck and the F-150 is a better built truck than the Super Duty (from my experience as I own both of them). If it's STRICTLY for use as a tow vehicle then get the 250.
Good luck / Skip

You gave a lot of info but you only need to be concerned with true weights and specs. An 8K loaded trailer requires a 3/4 ton chasis.

I can't believe the SuperDuty owners would let this comment slide. Skip has a history of firing off "shots" and then disappearing into the night. Come on SuperDuty owners, what say you?
Just tryin' to stir the pot!

We are not here to start arguments. He has his opinion, we Super Duty owners have ours.

Man I wanted to go with a F150 because of the fuel economy, but after crunching numbers and asking questions it came down to payload for me. I pull a lot lighter trailer (5400 lbs loaded) than your 8000 lbs., but I carry a lot of heavy junk around. Be realistic in your payload weights. The F150 will do just fine pulling the trailer, but if you are going to load the truck up "with lots of fire wood" then you might be in the same boat as I was and payload will be the deciding factor.
