Since you both still work I would assume that you are not looking for something to use for weeks at a time but for the typical long weekends and occasional extended trips ("vacation"). Since you want a DP I would suggest that you concentrate on 36ft. I would also say that you are not going to be satisfied for 50K. At 100k/36ft I would be searching for a 2003-2006 model. You need to know what you want in a coach and what, for you, is a deal killer. Also, the Horizon and Phaeton you mentioned are top of the line for their manufacturers. Is that what you are aiming for? Right now cash is king. If you have a good down payment and you find your own money you can deal with anyone as a cash deal. For example, that dealer who is stuck at 139k for the Horizon. Show him the money at 95k and watch him drop his price. Make sure you look at the NADA prices on anything you are interested in. Research, research, research. Winnebago has specs on line for their previous years model, Tiffin and Newmar may have the same. Don't get impatient and don't give up. Many people spend a year or more on this project.

finding used MH is easy, finding a used MH that is well cared for, priced reasonably well is another whole story! one of the reasons we ended up with a new coach.

I feel for the OP.

If you're looking for Tiffin Phaeton I would suggest joining TRVN It is a site devoted to Tiffins, but is free to join and you don't have to be a Tiffin owner. I just quickly checked the Classified section and came up with the following:
2 - 07 Phaetons, one in AL and one in NM. Asking price $135,000
1 - 06 Phaeton in TX. Asking price $125,000
1 - 05 Phaeton in CO. Asking price $98,500

When I fist started shopping for our first used MH I bet we looked at close to 90 rigs. Finding a good rig with what we wanted was the hard part. If it's more then you want to pay keep shopping but if it is really what you want then you might have to bite the bullet and pay the price.

I talked to a Tiffin dealer in New Hampshire that could get me into a loaded Allegro Bay for around $118,000. I was trying to go used for many reasons.
Here in Massachusetts, we have excise tax that is $25 for ever $1,000 of value. The first year, its 90 percent of the value, the second year it drops considerably.
We have had a travel trailer and a fifthwheel but this will be our first motorhome. What I like now might not be what I like after I started using it. For example, our fiver we sold only had 1 AC, 30 amp service and a rear entry door. If I was to ever buy another fifthwheel it would have 2 AC's, 50 service, and a mid entry door but when we bought it, we loved it.
I figured if I could get a good deal on a second hand coach, I could use it and figure out my likes and dislikes so I will know for the next one.
One other thing of concern with the Tiffins is I think the local dealer is on shakey ground. I don't know how much longer he will be around and it would be nice to have product support close by.
I would also consider other manufacturers if the price was right.

You might poke around eBay. For example, I saw this 07 Allegro Bay with a "buy it now" of $108,000. There are 21 Tiffins listed now.

We ended up buying new since most of the used MHs I found were listed for as much or more than we paid. The excise tax might be a pain, but at least you have a warranty with a new one.

You mentioned $50-100K as your budget. You're going to have to go back around 10 yrs. to find a 36-40ft. DP in that price range. The prices you listed above for the 07 Phaeton and 05 Itasca were about what you can expect to pay for MHs of that age and level of quality. Both have excellent reputations.

If that is your budget, you're likely either going to have to go old or go gas.
