I have a 2003 Four Winds 5er. On level ground hooked up to the truck the (refrigerator) is 1/2 inch out of level on top left to right. The refrigerator is 2 feet wide and 4 feet up and down. The 1/2 inch out of level was a level on the top of the refrigerator. We park at rest stops overnight from time to time. Will leaving the refrigerator on at this leveling ruin it while parking overnight? Thanks

no. Being out of level (by notably more than you are experiencing) won't ruin it, it'll just make it ineffective at cooling. As it is, I doubt the efficiency will be much affected, you're just not tilted enough to make a difference.

I agree with skylos. The older units from the 60's and 70's were more finicky to being level but the newer technology has made the reefers work better,

I had heard that on the older models, it made a bit more difference, but now days (last 20 years), if you are comfortable with the level of the RV, the fridge should be fine. In other words, if you are rolling out of bed, you may want to try and get it a bit more level....for both you and the fridge!

In front of our house where we park the 5th wheel for loading, the street is unlevel front to back and side to side. I can drive up on blocks to level side to side and adjust the front to back level with the landing gear. However, we usually only park there for a couple of days while getting ready, I don't use the blocks. The 5th wheel is low on the curbside by 3 inches.
That means the refrig is sitting un-level front to back with the back being the low side. The refrig works great even in this un-level state. In the past, we have had it running for over a week like this without any problem.
Here's an example of what happens when the refrig is too far out of level. We parked in a grassy area at a flea market and leveled the trailer, plugged in to electric. We spent a couple of days there and everything worked well.
We left the trailer parked with the refrig on and went to visit family for a few days. While we were gone there was a rain storm, the ground was saturated and the landing gear sunk into the mud about 6 inches.
When we returned, the refrig was still on but everything inside had gotten warm and spoiled. The refrig was not cool. I re-leveled the trailer and the refrig cooled down overnight.
So they are pretty forgiving when it comes to a little (RV up to 3 inches) out of level especially for short periods of time (12 - 24 hours).

Put a bullseye level in the freezer compartment.. if you have slide outs, run them out and let the springs settle for a few minutes. Then shim the wheels to level the freezer compartment side to side. Attach levels on the outside that will alow you to repeat this setting without having to go into the freezer each time. It will cool much better if it's level than if it's close to level... That said... wife will complain if the cooking oil doesn't stay in the center of the pan...

1/2 inch in 2 feet is about 1.2°. Most refrgerators have a tolerance of 3° side to side and 6° front to back. If you have the manual for your unit check it to be sure.

No. It only has to be level ENOUGH to be comfortable to live in the trailer.
