Has anyone hauled a big ( 38 foot ) fiver from Durango to Ouray via Cortez and Ridgeway?

Semi trucks make it, but you better know how to handle the white knuckle aspect of the drive. I went over it with my 28'er, just take your time.

He's not talking about the infamous US550 over Red Mountain. The route he is asking about is CO145 out of Cortez to CO 62 to Ridgeway. It is an easy pull(no white knuckles) with the only pass being Lizard Head, which is a pull but not too bad. Nice scenery, but not as breath taking as 550. It does add 50-60 miles to the trip. I've gone both ways and really prefer 550 due to the scenery and shorter distance. But I drive around Colorado all the time so mountain passes don't concern me.

That is the way I am going to go when I go home to Ouray this summer my fifth wheel is 36 feet

34 footer without an issue. It is an easy drive. I do it every year. Even passed a semi a time or two!

I didnt think it was that big of a deal. But some one here will lead you to beleive its a terrialbe road. Here is some YouTube vids of 550 I think this guy is on a motorcycle.

Been over that stretch many times the views are great. Going either way just stop and check all the sights. theres plenty on both routes. theres an old pyrite mine Fools Gold, in Rico don't no if there are tours or not.
