I have a 2010 Dodge RAM 3500 Mega Cab Diesel SRW 4x4 with a short box. I had the Hijacker dual pivot 5th wheel autoslide hitch installed. The Dealer had problems adjusting it and it needs more adjusting to make the bar easy to pull to slide the hitch back and forth. It seems that it will be really difficult to pull once the trailer is connected and I have back problems so I am thinking that is not a wise choice for me.
I want to change it to the hijacker autoslide but woirried that it may not be good. First Ive heard some rumours that tere are problems with it becuase its a relatively new design. Second, my bed is 6ft 4in and the instruction manual sais that there is no guarantee the trailer will make a 90 degree turn especially if it is installed in a bed less than 6ft 6in. I have a 37foot Cedar Creek trailer (model 37RDTS) with an airride hitch.
Does anybody have any guidance for my specific issues? Anybody have a similar configuration of a shortbox with a cedar creek 5th wheel?
Thanks

Call Hijacker in Victora, they are gread people to deal with. They should be able to answer your questions and work with the installer to fix you up.

I took Chris's advice and called Hijacker. They sent alignment info for the Ultraslide hitch. I removed washers installed on the side brackets and tightened the bolt securing the locking bar. It now works fine and may be ok for me. Vacation was delayed so we havent pulled the trailer yet. We will hook up the trailer next week and see how it works and then decide if I need the autoslide hitch.
Thanks for everyone's advice,

You need lots of grease on the handle bar or you will have trouble getting the bar all the way across and pulling it out.
To release the kingpin when unhitching, first raise the trailer a bit, then get in the truck and reverse it hard and stomp on the brake pedal. The idea is not to let the truck move forward after that at all. Don't take your foot off the brake pedal yet. Put the parking brake on hard and then take your foot off the brake pedal and put the truck in park. This is gets the bar away from the pin so you can pull the handle out.
Every so often you have to reset that adjustment bolt to keep the kingpin from being too loose so you get a bang when starting and stopping.
If you forget to grease the handle bar and it goes in most of the way and now you can't pull it back either you have to take the handle off the bar (it has a bolt there so that is easy) and hammer the end of the handle bar to get the bar all the way in so you can put in the safety pin. Then put the handle back on. Unhitching same as usual but pull harder. Then grease it until you forget the next time
You can set the handle up or sideways. Depending on your clearance and set-up, if the handle is up it can poke into the bottom of the trailer up there when turning in a dip. It is easier to get a good pull on it when up though.

My previous hijacker hitch was really good, every once and a while the bar would start feeling tight and just requires a bit of grease. When I went to the short box, I opted for the hijacker autoslide. It works great however, I find it harder to hitch because of the load guides. Overall, it feels less forgiving hitching than my previous hijacker. The autoslide feature is well worth it, I find that it gets used a lot in shopping malls with a lot of curbs, construction zones, and older campgrounds. To me the extra money was worth it because I know I would get distracted once causing the back window to meet an unfortunate end.
