So, sue.t, when are you making your 1st X-country trip?

We switched from CAA to Good Sam simply because of the cost - there are a couple of perks that we lost - the tour books we miss - but the discounts are pretty much all available (and more) with other memberships that we have. Over a number of years we used the services of both - and have no complaints about either.

Use to be a CAA member for a number of years. When we got back into RV went with Good Sam because of cost, coverage and my wife had her own card which covered her car.
CAA still calls looking for a subscription but when I tell them I am with Good Sam they just say bye. They know they can not compare.

We're just not sure we can survive another drive across Saskatchewan! The only scenery that changes is the colour of the bovines in the fields! And last visit to Manitoba, we were able to enjoy a small tornado! Dunno!!

More than 6,000 km one way ... we plan to do it but it will likely have to wait until we retire and we can do it right! We thought it would be fun to drive east on the most northernly routes possible, whether paved or not. Would surely see Canada from a unique perspective!

Glad to hear you plan one.

Of course, without spelling it out, I was saying, you may not love your CAA ERS so much when you expand the territory where you want coverage. People in BC seem to really like what you have there, but I'm not hearing anything remotely like that CAA approval rating from other parts of the country.

Sounds like you need to ask the Sask and MB people about your route and places that you visit.

(& though I'm now retired, I confess my western trip plans are now deferred to downunder plans)

Interesting about CAA coverage not being as good in the rest of Canada compared to BC.

We have had BCAA for years for the cars, and upgraded to the RV Premium when we got Mobi.

Before Mobi we had used it for tows and many unlockings. We used it in Banff too without any issues.

With Mobi we had a tow on Christmas Day 2007, the alternator died. They needed to send out the big truck to tow our 27' Class C. They towed to our mechanic of choice, not the closest one.

I guess when we travel further afield we will need to look at other options.

Oh I forgot to mention I have used my CAA in New Zealand too.

Just renewed my GoodSam ERS for another year- cost $112 US. What does CAA cost for the same thing?

Being a member of Explorer Club (Canadian) is a real plus as the ERS package that is available is great. Have had ERS package for 10 years and used it many times - excellent service. check it out www.explorer-rvclub.com plus they have a great magazine that is Canadian focused. Go Canada Go!

We have used Good Sam for many years in Canada and the service is always great. The cost is less than BCAA and it is geared for RV's and all other vehicles.
Highly recommend it
