I'm headed to Florida tomorrow. For me it's a 4 day trip. Drive 400 miles a day. I stay in a campground every night and I don't unhook.
Yep, actually drove to all of these places---in the last eight years. Missed Rhode Island and New Jersey.

We went to Orlando for Christmas 2009 and will be going to Fort Wilderness June 2010. It only takes 1 overnight stay. We do not plan ahead where that will be. It was at a diesel stop in Georgia on the way down, and a Flying J diesel stop in North Carolina on the way up. The drive is super easy, we took 95 all the way. No extraordinary traffic issues.

Although we're a little closer, we break it up into two days going down there. If you can make it to southern Ga., you're only 4-5 hours from the Fort the next day. Leave the campground at 8:00 and you're at the Fort's gate by 1:00pm fresh and ready for the rest of the day.
Get The Next Exit book from Camping World, Amazon, etc.. It will tell you everything at every exit along I-95 and I-4. Campgrounds, truck stops, restaurants, etc. and all the RV accessible places are marked in red. That's how we find our campground/overnite spot for the trip down but we do make reservations.
Our favorite: Country Oaks, Ga. If you can make it that far, it's a little over 4 hours to Mickey.

We have driven to Florida often dragging our 27' trailer- usually in March or very early April. We have in the last couple of years started on a Thursday night after work and get down to a hotel around Pittsburgh. After that we put in a long day to the Georgia/Florida border and camp without unhooking. That only leaves you a few hours into Florida depending on where you are headed.
On the flip side we have done some very long trips (ie. California, Yellowstone, Alberta etc.) and we drive 450-550 miles a day for anywhere from 4-7 days steady and we camp every night. We will often unhook and drive into town for dinner with the kids. It's not a big deal and you can really get into a groove with it. We find it quite relaxing.
Take your time and enjoy the road!

We plan our trip down and back and take our time. We stopped in N. Carolina, then Jacksonville, Fla. This made for about a 3 hr. drive to the Fort from Jacksonville. Since you can't get in until 1pm, you can take your time leaving Jacksonville and be fresh for the rest of the day. We leave the 5er hooked up if just spending the night. We make reservations at each campground just to be safe.

We do the Fort Wilderness trip most of the time in one straight trip. Leaving around 8 - 9pm from Delaware. Last year we went as far as Kingsland Ga KOA which is as far south in Georgia as you can get. Spent the night there, nice pool, pull thru sites, pretty cheap, WIFI. we did not unhook and pulled out around 10am for a few short hours to Disney.

Went there last May from VA. Left around 5:45 with the 6 of us, including a (then) 2 and 5 year old. We stopped at Savannah South KOA for the night. I like having hookups for the a/c and the quiet of a campground.
I mapped out several campgrounds along the way, and as we got closer, I called to see which had spots available. I wanted to get as far as possible on day 1 and have a short drive on day 2.
I do have the advantage of a motorhome, so we only had to stop for fuel and driver bathroom breaks.
I'd suggest putting together a list of possible stops, whether they're campgrounds, truck stops or Wal Marts starting in mid South Carolina into Georgia. Be flexible.
Enjoy!

Altho we start out much further North, we do it in 3 days. First night we dry camp at the rest area a the North end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. We leave about 4AM and plan to be at the rest area around 5 PM. Yes, this makes for a long first day, but it gets the worst of the driving out of the way. 2nd night is at Savannah South KOA. Usually arrive at FW by mid afternoon of the 3rd day. It all depends on how many miles you're comfortable driving per day.
We go way around NYC, and nowhere near Baltimore and DC.
In any case - enjoy your trip !

We do it every year. I don't mind the drive at all so we stop at the Flying J in Brunswick, GA on the way down and the Flying J in Kenley, NC on the way home. It takes about 16 hours total for us. My personal best, not towing, is 13 hours door to door.
