I have posted "found pet" under Craigslist and on several other sites. Believe me if someone does claim the dog as being theirs I will be glad to give her back although it will break my heart to give "Roadie" up. Yes, I can imagine the pain of losing a beloved pet.

And you've called all the vets, police, shelters, and placed flyers with her pic at those same places and in the area? Not everyone has a computer and not everyone would look on Craig's List (I know if I lost an animal, Craig's List would be the furthest from my mind because I tend to think of that as more of a "selling" type site). Did you place a short ad in the newspaper that serves your area?

I think what bothers me most is that someone just passing through the area lost her, especially if there are any state parks or camp grounds around there. And when I say "around there", again, at least in a 15-mile area.

I agree. And you know what happens a lot? Somebody gives a dog away and the poor thing escapes and tries to get back to it's original home. The shelters are full of nice dogs that ended up stray for all kinds of reasons. In these tough economic times, people are not lined up to pay the fees to get their dog out of the shelter, either. I am very glad Roadie was rescued and saved from a tragic ending and she has a nice home with someone who had an empty space in their heart and life. Good job!

Yes, yes, yes. Why the hell do I feel like I am being chastised for doing what I thought was right in picking up a starving, tagless collared young dog? She very well could have been hit by a car or attacked by coyotes?

This will be my last post regarding this issue. In the meantime Roadie will stay here and be well fed, loved and appreciative.

I think you did a wonderful thing and that dog now has a life and someone who cares. People do thrown dogs and cats out on the roads to get rid of them. It is a horrible thing to do and now you have a great new companion. Congratulations!

Because your post indicated that you have taken over this dog as your own. Not once did you indicate that you saved this dog from danger while you have started a diligent search to find its owners. Admit it, you want this dog, and you have the intent of keeping this dog.

I foster rescue dogs, and find anyone noble who will rescue and care for a homeless dog, especially one in danger. However, I find it repulsive to highjack an animal and keep it from its rightful owner. I am afraid you are more of a highjacker than a rescuer.

My apologies if I came across as harsh. That wasn't my intent. I agree that you did a wonderful thing by taking this animal in and keeping it safe. However, your first post didn't give any indication that you were trying to find the rightful owner. It certainly appears you are and I wish you the best of luck. I know you will be heartbroken if you have to give Roadie up but I also know you will do what is best.
