After having to have my last two pets put down (Rambo and then Missie), I had decided against getting another pet - just not yet.
As many of you know - it's to hard to say goodbye.

Well, day before yesterday on my way home from shopping, I spotted this cute dog along the side of the road not from from my house. I stopped and opened the door. She hesitated about getting in so I picked her up and brought her home. A collar but no tag so I fed her and gave her water. Seems like she hadn't eaten in a while. She is no trouble, and having her in the backseat of my car yesterday and today, she is content riding.
So, hopefully she will enjoy camping when the weather warms up. My benefit...not necesarily hers!

BTW, I named her "Roadie." I'll try and post some photos.

Have you even tried to find her owner? Seems selfish to me that you have taken ovr this dog without regard for someone who may be suffering having lost their very loved fruiend.

I live in a rural area and many people come through and drop off unwanted animals. (This is the third that I have taken in, loved and cared for.)

I have checked with all the other neighboring houses and no one knows anything about "Roadie".

The nearest town is six miles away and unseemingly possible that she could have wandered off from there.

If she does belong to someone, I'd like to know. If they don't want her back, at least they can tell me something about her like her age, having had shots, etc.

And yes, I will continue to search for her owner but in the meantime, she will have my love, devotion and companionship. Much better than being left along the roadside to be run over or attached by coyotes (like my last adopted stray was.)

I think you did a wonderful thing and gave this little dog a new chance in life, and a good one at that.
How many people would have just kept on driving. I think if the owner really wants their dog they'd be looking, putting up signs, listing lost on craigslist, anything to get her back.
You did good!

I'm so happy for the dog to find someone to take care of him. Congratulations and how about some pics.

It is your duty as a good citizen and animal lover to try and find the owner. Run an ad in a local paper, contact local vets and animal shelters to see if anyone has reported the dog missing. If you are unwilling to do that, regardless of where you live and your perception of how improbable it is the dog belongs to anyone, then contact someone who is.

Usually when someone drops a dog off, they don't leave the collar on. I agree with Crowe and the others...call the local police, animal shelters, vets, etc. 6 miles is not far for a dog to travel if she's in a traveling mood. I'd hit every town within a 15-mile circle.
