My husband and I are pretty much new at this travel trailer thing. We just bought an "Open Range - Roamer". We took it out for a quick weekend/trial run. We had several problems. The hot water heating element went out. The awning wasn't opening right. The black water "nozzel?" wouldn't open. The door was sticking really bad.................we were just wondering if anyone who had a Roamer has had any problems with theirs. I was so thrilled the we upgraded to a "new" TT....but was so disappointed in our first outing! I really hope we didn't make a poor choice in brands and the we didn't get a lemon! Any feedback would be appreciated!

Sounds like relatively minor (but frustrating) issues.
Most all new trailers need some tweaking and adjusting at first.
Make a list and take it back to the dealer for the fixes.
Don't let them blow you off with "It's normal."

You will also find that the more new trailers you buy the more you will realize that quality build control leaves something to be desired in the industry.

At this point, I would say that you "got a lemon".
Good luck with you new adventure.

It's a little late NOW but those are all things that SHOULD have been addressed before you took delivery. THAT'S when those trailers with problem get adjusted and tweaked usually. Hope it turns around for you / Skip

First, some of the problems you describe should have been addressed during the PDI. All of those components are common to all RVs. The water heater is most likely either an Atwood or a Surburban. They are used by virtually every RV builder. The Black tank dump valve is also from one or two valve manufacturers. The awning is a different story, it may be a simple matter of adjustment (something that should have been checked at PDI) or perhaps a matter of operator error. Proper deployment and retraction of a manual unit is something that is learned with practice. There are a few different units that are used by everyone. If it is an electric unit, it is more likly and adjustment problem that should have been fixed during the PDI process.

Bottom line: I would blame the dealer for a poor PDI not the RV builder, although the water heater was working at first, so without determining the problem it is difficult point a finger at the source.

Mark and Kelly, first of all welcome to this forum and the world of Travel Trailers. Hopefully your minor problems can be resolved by the dealer where you purchased the unit. I highly doubt that these issues are inherent to your brand, just seems like some poor inspections done along the line or at the dealer. Document all the repairs done, even if they were covered under warranty. Start yourself a tablet of problems and keep it in the TT at least until you're out of warranty to document what has been found and when it was fixed. Good luck and once again welcome to the forum.

Shouldn't the water heater still work on gas even though the electrical element is burned out?
