We are thinking about a trip to Cooperstown for a couple days in August. After that we would like to head up into the Adirondacks. Looking for suggestions of where to go. We have been to Lake George so we would like to try someplace else. Any suggestions (campgrounds also please)
Thanks
Jim

Not sure exactly what you're looking to do but Lake Placid is a really fun place to visit. They sell a pass that includes a lot of the Olympic venues that are fun to see ... we stayed at the Lake Placid KOA and it's really nice. The sites aren't too bad - not huge but nice enough and there is a pool, playground and things to do if you're traveling with kids.
If you like water parks there's one in Old Forge and a campground right attached - Old Forge Camping Resort. The town is fun to walk through with lots of little shops. The campground is okay - not our favorite - the sites are fairly small but if you book early enough they do have some really nice water front sites.

I'd second the above but you might consider Sampson park at the head of Seneca Lake. Not the Adirondacks, but lots to do in the Finger Lakes area.

Rollins pond which is north of saranac lake is one of the nicest places we've stayed. In my opinion this represents the Adirondacks at their best. The majority of the sites are right on the water. Its a state park without hook ups. You definitly are off the grid.Bring some good books and a hammock.

Another vote for the Lake Placid KOA as a base camp. Beautiful CG. Nice drive from there to Lake Placid, Saranac Lake & other locations. (The CG is actually close to the town of Wilmington.)

One more vote for Lake Placid KOA, if you need hookups.

If you don't need hookups, the Adirondacks has a bunch of State Campgrounds to choose from in the Park.

Another vote for this one. We passed through here early oct in 08. A busy place on that weekend. Only half of the park was open.

This is a state park on my must visit list, Fish Creek Pond State Park (DEC) - Adirondacks, NY. http://fishcreekpond.com/
No hookups but you don't really need AC in the Adirondacks.

Come up to Ausable Chasm in the northern NY Adirondacks. We keep a seasonal site there that we use as a base to travel from. The Chasm is fun to see and the ferry (rv friendly) to Burlington, VT is just down the road; lots to visit around there too.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I personally like the state parks, but my wife likes to be hooked up. I think we may look at Lake Placid.
thanks again
Jim
