Depends on what she defines as "problems." I tow 4000lbs with the 4.8L and 3.43 gears. In 3rd most of the time. So much in fact that I just leave it there.

It does the job, but does slow down on the hills. For the few hundred miles I do a year I have a hard time justifying a new truck until I actually NEED a new truck.

There was one instance last year where I hit a hill going up to the Olean NY airport that put me down into 1st. Then again, I made it up where many supposedly more capable rigs have had to back down and go the long way around.

2000 Palomino B1500
...and the reason why I need a DRW to haul a Palomino:
2004 United 7x14 tandem axle enclosed toy trailer
2011 PJ 8x20 7-ton deckover equipment trailer

Way too much focus on power guys. These are things to consider:

- Auxiliary transmission cooler. May have come from factory, probably not.
- Good weight distribution hitch and sway control, matched to camper
- Integrated brake controller (Prodigy is well liked)
- Someone to help you get all of this setup correctly.

The 4.8L makes plenty of power to pull the load, but it may need to run in 2nd gear on grades... so let it rev to 4k rpms and keep the speed down. Why does everyone focus on power so much, especially for someone who is towing a few times?
