I was wondering how long it was going to be before we heard anything about Horsepower and torque on the New Duramax Diesel.

397 HP
765 ftlb of torque..

Not too shabby, and suppose to get better mpg....wonder what one is going to cost?

Just a thought, but both Ford and GM were predicted to have more power (400-425 HP) and less torque.
I bet they are both sandbagging the horsepower numbers

Great for GM, what an engine. Better mileage, more power.
All this new power wars got me thinking, since the begin of the recession/depression, the rv market has basically fell out especially the big, heavy, long fifth wheels. Seems now more people are buying lighter, smaller trailer type rvs. Since is seems that the truck manufacturers have developed a way to make power, pass emissions, and get good mileage(thanks to Urea), could mileage become the leading driver in the future. If you can make 735+ foot pounds and hit 20+mpg, what about say 550 foot pounds and 27-30 mpg with a clean tailpipe? Fuel ain't getting any cheaper, 500 foot pounds is more than enough to tow a 8-12,000 lb trailer, and hitting 20mpg while towing sure would be sweet. Just a thought as I see fuel creeping back up in price.

I'll bet that Dodge plays it cool, or smart and doesn't let itself get sucked into the H.P./torque game and keeps their engine ratings as they are.

I think folks are getting tired of these Pi**ing matches between automakers bumping up their power figures.

I really hope that Dodge/Chrysler stays miles away from this scenario.

And 60% new parts in the new Duramax. At what percentage does it become a "new design"?
