My Onan is stalling out from lack of gas. The fuel pump has good pressure and suction and no leak down of either side. Have tested it with gauges. When I disconnect the intake fuel line and put in my gas can on the ground it runs fine with no signs of misfires or stalling. So I know so far it runs ok and is getting plenty of fuel even with both A/Cs running to put a full load on it pulling gas from my gas can.

Blow back on fuel line and I can hear bubbling in the tank so I know the line is not obstructed.

Starts up fine using gas in carb and runs for several minutes and stalls out again.

Pull fuel line at filter by carb and put in a bottle and crank engine and no fuel comes out.

Question..... Is this due to the pump losing it's prime because the fuel line is empty? Do I have to play games with a siphon to pull gas from the tank into the line before reconnecting the fuel line?

Filter is clean......

It sounds like you have the classic rotted fuel line problem that Fleetwood experienced back in the 1999-2000 time frame........

I had all kinds fuel headaches on my old carbed onan, it doesn't have a return line. I wound up putting a fuel pressure regulator on the generator fuel line and has been reliable since. Fuel tanks are sealed for emissions so that can change fuel pressure, you can try running it with the gas cap off, it might tell you something.

lets see you put a fuel line on the suction side of the pump and drop it in a can and it runs fine?

connect to rv fuel tank and it won't run?

do you have more than a 1/4 tank of gas? the genset fuel pickup stops somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 to keep the genset from emptying the tank and leaving you stranded in the middle of no where

if so you have a bad spot in the line that works like when you kink a straw you get coke until it hits that spot then nothing. you need to trace and replace the fuel line

In my case the problem was a loose clamp at the transition from rubber fuel line to metal close to the vehicle gas tank. It allowed air to enter and kill the generator.
