Oh for Pete's sake, no one uses the term 'Big Rig' because they want to be like semi drivers. Get real.

The term is used to denote that a CG's roads and sites will accomodate heavy, long, tall, MH's and toads as well as long 5vrs or TTs with their respective TVs in maneuverability, site space and without overhead problems.

The only time I pat attention to big rig is if they use it to classify RV sites that can handle 35' or longer motor homes and trailers with slides.

Could be that in most cases there are either no right answers or many right answers.

An 18 wheeler commercial semi-truck and trailer combination.

That's what I have always considered a big rig.

I think of it as a tractor/trailer assortment, generally used for commercial businesses, hauling materials or product. Vehicles used for recreational purposes, to me, are RV's, whether they're travel trailers, motorhomes, 5th wheels, etc.
