Hi all, two part question here, do you leave your rv power cord plugged in the portable generator when you turn it off and turn it back on ( refueling for instance ) I know you turn off all the electrical equipment in the rv before you shut it down, and start it back up again. also do you use any type of surge protector. I am worried about voltage drop at shut down and voltage rise at start up of portable generator. Thanks all for your input. have a great day !!
My experince with my HONDA generator ,if i leave it pluged in when i shut it down it blows the fuse.I now unplug the power cord, problem solved,i hope this may be of some help. herb
No problem with voltage fluxuation if you follow instructions and NEVER start or stop the generator while it's under load. I use a power strip with a switch to avoid plugging and unplugging into a hot outlet.

Honda 3000 here. I get it running and then plug in the loads, usually the shore power cord into the 30 and another cord into a 15.
The Honda (on eco) makes a little snort when the cord is plugged in since it has a small load on it. Normally I finish running big things and the Honda is back to low revs and I just turn it off with the key in the switch. Then I unplug the cords. If big things are still running I would turn them off first, then turn off the Honda, then unplug the cords. Small loads makes no diff to the Honda.
If I manage to overload it while it is running, it will pop its breaker and keep running. I then have to shut off and restart the engine to reset the breaker.
Here it depends on the loads for how they act. If they just get going again by themselves then that is a possible problem, so in that case you want to unplug their cords until the Honda is run up again.
If the heavier loads are the type you need to restart anyway after the power comes back on, then no problem, leave the cord in.
The Honda 2000 is inverter driven and won't produce anything but 120V@60Hz. When I shut it down, as soon as the rpm drops, the power is removed from it's output. For startup, the Surgegard won't connect for several seconds to 2 mins (depending on setup), and the coach EMS has further delay, so I don't bother with it either.
