We spent a week in the area and recommend not staying in San Antonio but rather in one of the smaller communities - we stayed in Bournes). The reason is that the area bouned by S/A - New Bounfels and Kerrville is all within an hour's drive. By staying in Bournes we drove thru the Hill Country to get to the various Caverns, which are spectacular and to get to New Brounfels. Driving thru the Hill Country is simply a pleasure. There are any number of parks to choose from and most have spaces except during spring break.

Instead of taking I-35 home, try 281 north out of San Antonio....a nice drive. We like to stay in Spring Branch when visiting SA. This http://www.springbranchrvresort.com/
is a nice place. Good luck.

We second Spring Branch RV Resort. We have been here all winter. It is a clean, well run campground and would make a great "home base" for visiting the San Antonio area.

We also have with us two "fur babies". A Basset Hound and a Chihuahua mix. Both are rescue dogs.

THANK YOU for all of your suggestions. We ended up staying at Traveler's World RV Park because we could take the city bus downtown. We saw the Alamo, Riverwalk, and the Mexican Market (El Mercado).

On the second day we visited the missions and SAS (San Antonio Shoemakers). Traveler's World is between 2 of the missions so they were easy to drive to.

Also, thanks for recommending the San Antonio Zoo. We were surprised about all of the exhibits they had. Our favorites were the different aviaries and the butterfly garden. We walked for 4 hours and did not see it all.

THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR SUGGESTIONS.

Knew I'd find a reason to go back. Just how did I miss that?
