My wife and I are looking to purchase a new RV. We currently have a 26 ft. fifth wheel and are looking at a 34 ft. Now we want to go anywhere in the US and are concerned about getting into some campsites. I have had no problem with my 26 ft. We have noticed that our RV is one of the smaller ones where we go.We like to camp in U.S. forest campgrounds as well besides the state parks and private ones. Hate to buy one and get frustrated about getting parked. When being gone for possible months at a time one would like to have that extra living space. But 34 feet is our limit. Anyone have some advice or examples to help? We would greatly appreciate it!!! Thanks, Bill

Per the US-Parks.com website the average National Park restriction is 27', but some like Yosemite say as long as it fits within the available space, with a 35' trailer and a 40' motorhome limit, and elsewhere in Yosemite that can take RVs up to 35 feet or trailers up to 24 feet. Some other parks can accomidate 40'. A Good Sam's Campground Directory will help.

It's just a matter of pure physics. It takes more room to hold a 34 footer than it does a 26 footer. This means just what you'd THINK it means, that there are a lot fewer spaces that will hold your 34 footer. Our trailer is also 34 feet in length and the tow vehicle is another 24 feet and we've traveled through 49 states and so far we've been "somewhere every night" and not ONE of those places was a parking lot. Yes you'll be more limited but not blocked out.

US Govt survey shows three out of four people make up 75% of the total population

Been fulltiming for 12 yrs with a 36 ft 5ver. Only once did we ever find a place where we could not fit. The ranger told us to go to another park abour 3 mi away.
Some of them are tight but you can make it.

I'm with Darrell- there will be some spots you will have trouble with, but you won't be done in. We travel with a 34' (more like 37' overall) and have almost no trouble. We stay in state and county campgrounds a lot and have never had a problem there. Only one time- in a national park- did I find a spot that just wasn't worth the hassle of putting it in there. I could have done it, but for the one night stay it just was't worth it.

You'll be fine unless you try Glacier National park.

We have a 34'7" long fifth wheel, some state parks are a little tight, but we been able to get in them all. Height with branches is more of a factor.
