I've been known to rely on 2 or more "support groups" per day.

To some it's a six pack, to me it's a support group.

Can you change the read-only attribute of just a file?

Try loading a read-only file into Works, then save it with a new name, and see if it is marked as read-only.

Nope. Once it's checked whether in a file or folder it's like chiseled in stone.

I opened a new Works Document, clicked insert/file, and it wouldn't continue with letting me select a read only file to insert. I did the same thing with a file that wasn't a read only and it transfered it to the Works document. All the individual recipes are not read only but the folder they're in is.... In "My Pictures" some pictures are read only and some aren't. I think I transfer them the same way..
I've been told that these machines are "sheet in, sheet out" so I guess I'm doing something wrong but thinking I do the same for everything I put into this thing, I don't know what I'm messing up....
Thanks for your help...

OK, but please try just opening a read-only file in Works, then saving it with a new name preferably to a folder that is not read-only. You could also just try copying the file to a non-read-only directory.

Try copying all the files (in the read-only folder) to a folder that is not read-only. If they are marked read-only in the non-readonly folder, then perhaps you can unmark them. It they are not marked rea-only then you are all set.

You are not doing anything wrong, there is something wrong with your system--perhaps disk corruption has caused it, perhaps a virus. What I am trying to find right now is a workaround so you can at least access your files.

Jerry,

I have never heard of emailing a folder. Have you been able to do this before? What email program do you use? I just tried it with Outlook Express and it cannot be done.

Hmm, ZIP files appear as folders in Windows Explorer--even though they are not really folders. Maybe that is what you are talking about?

Have a great trip to the desert!

TreeSeeker..

I copied the files that weren't read only from the read only folder and pasted them to a folder on the desktop but I can't E-mail a folder of the files only individual ones. Works won't accept them either. I've given up on the project........... We're leaving in the morning to go desert camping for a few days. It's probably our last chance before the weather gets too hot.............

I hope you're right about it not being not all my fault though I admit to not being "the sharpest tool in the box" when it comes to messing with this computer.
Thanks for all your help...

So, what I've been fussing about can't be done? That figures.....
I copied several recipe files to a different folder then to a Zip folder and can E-mail that but it's going to be too large and the "shrinker" won't shrink text files like it does photos. I don't remember if I ever tried to send folders of text files but have sent pictures with no problems. I guess it's because I can select them one at a time then send the whole bunch.
I used to have Outlook Express but had to change to a Hotmail account when I got High-speed Internet. I don't know why, that's just what was required.

Desert trip was great. It's totally green with all the rain we've had. It's a bit early for the flowers to be in full bloom but they are started.
