Hi,

I believe the price for the 50 watt unit is about 3k. I could do solar panels that would do the same total wattage per day (1200 watts) for under 1k, and never have a fuel issue.

Now, if the Bloom scalable technology fuel cell catches on--we might end up with fuel cell powered electric hub motor RV's, and have more power available when standing still than ten houses would use!

Hmmm, when not needed to power the RV electric powered hubs while standing still, here is the answer Bloom Energy puts out. Sell it to the grid. But, this old man wants not to get that monster cable out and plug into the grid. What to do?

Hi Old & Slow,

Just use "broadcast" power technology! Not a cable in sight. *grin*.

But I'm dead serious about those 'Electric powered wheels' That will be on the news soon. You heard it first on RV.NET ~ Tech Issues

In honor to the OP (Rob's) asking for opinion. 'Chevron' already operates five HYDROGEN stations for the fuel cell vechicles. However, NG/LPG in now on the seen. How many different fuels will be used in the fuel cells in the near future?

i am using a Protonex fuel cell that uses methanol. It has to be a low sulphur methanol, though, so as not to wreck the membrane. by controlling the fuel supply, they control the purity.

Just like everything else that takes a lot of capital to develop and market, the price will come down.

Remember memory....A 256K one bit chip was 10 bucks or more back in the 70's...Now you can get a Gig X 8 bits for under $25.

My thought exactly. Even though the fuel cell generator seems to not be "ready for prime time," it is now in such a state of development that I'm confident it will soon be practical for a number of smaller-scale applications including RVing. That's more or less where wind generation was 25 years ago, and now you can use it on almost any scale, large or small.

Saw a similar product at the Rally in Alburquque in April. Ran all the time to make 12 volt DC. You are going to need a lot of battery and some heavy wiring and an inverter Unit if I remember was about 14x14x20 inches. 6000$. I'll wait a little longer, Thank you

Where is the fuel needed available? Any idea yet about the cost per hour for operation?
