Can anyone tell me if they are having problems keeping their Pleasure Way driving straight while either towing or if the generator is running? I am having considerable problems with it going all over the road, even when I turned the generator off.

You'll probably get more useful answers if you tell folks which model & year PW, on which chassis. Maybe also what brand & type of tires at what pressures. I can't imagine that the generator has anything to do with it.

I picked up my new PW 2005 Excel on Saturday it too was all over the road. The dealer where I purchased it has Hancooks on the front @ 55psi and Kumho - 12 ply on the rear at 80psi.
The PW was empty at the time expect for the driver - me.
The top speed I could get was 90kph (55mph). The unit felt like it was too light in the front end, so I was constantly making steering corrections.
I am going to talk to the dealer this week but I'd like some opinions before I do.

Steve, are all the tires load range E? Maybe try experimenting with front tire pressures from 50 to 70 psi. From reading here, IIRC some years of Excel have rear air bags standard, other years they're optional. If you've got them, also experiment with pressures.

Possible cures.... front end alignment. Check front wheel bearing & steering box adjustment. Many folks here and on the class C forum with new or used E-series Ford driving problems have high praise for Bilstein shocks (from eshocks.com, about $75 each). On the C forum, adding a rear sway bar seems to be another popular thing, mostly for reducing truck wind push (Hellwig, probably under $300).

Again from reading here, Ford Excel driveability seems to be a really variable issue... some folks have no problems, some have major issues.

Good luck with it. BTDT a while back with an '00 Dodge RT 190. I learned a lot of things that _didn't_ help from that one, and to avoid Michelin LTX tires. Scary to drive, no fun at all, and sure not a vacation experience....

Thanks Jim.
My assumption is that yes they are all load range "E" but I would have to check to make sure.
The dealer did replace the upper and lower ball joints on the front. So dumb question, after doing that would it need a front end alignment?

I have trouble keeping my Pleasureway on the road even if the generator is not running!

Using the "Advanced Search" tool, look for "Excel AND Handling". Then choose the option find all words in any order, and limit to Class B forum.

You'll find a number of threads.

Don't forget the rear wheel spacers, they were not standard equipment on the 2005 Excel models but they do make a huge difference in handling. I ran 75# front and 80# rear on both of my Excels.
