Any other Snowbirds have there stick built house broken into while you were gone? My son called yesterday that my DW storage shed {she is a whole sale dealer} was broken into plus her cargo Van. Guess they stole a lot of "stuff" plus threw a lot of her inventory all over the place. With all the cutbacks in Calif the Sheriff Dept would not come out and take a report. Said report it to your Insurance Co
The Insurance said "have to have a report from the Sheriffs Office.
At least they did not break into our House or my Shop/Garage.
Told my Son if they break into my Shop to shoot them on sight.
Just kidding.

A few weeks ago many homes in Texas and Oshtemo townships in Kalamazoo Michigan had been broken into. The home owners were gone for the winter and snow was not plowed in and around the driveway and was apparent to the thief the home owners were gone. Guess who got arrested? It was the newspaper delivery man who had a younger accomplice with him.

Sorry to hear about the break in and the inactivity on the sheriff's dept. My son's car was hit by a hit and run driver in Phoenix a while ago and he moved the car to a lit area and called the police. They would not respond because he had moved the car. What is the world coming to when you can't get any help from the authorities?.

My sister who RVed more than staying at home, finally sold the house after sereral break-ins. They just full-timed for a few years, then gave that up and bought another house.

Tell your insurance company that you have reported the loss--from that point your insurance company can communicate with the sheriff's office for any necessary information--normally a walk in or phone in report from you is all that is necessary.

That is why we have an alarm system in our S&B. This year some kids got bored and tagged a lot of vinyl fences in our neighborhood. We got lucky as it appeared they ran out of paint as they got to our fence and only tagged one panel. Our neighbors all got together and not only cleaned each others but cleaned ours as well. It was determined by the PD that it appeared to be a random wannabe as there was no known gang signs. Good to have neighbors who watch over things. One removes snow and even walks around on the snow leading up to the front door from the mail box. He will also run his car up the driveway so it looks like someone is home.
I highly suggest an alarm system. When I was activated for 2 years after 9/11 it sure gave us piece of mind while we were in Dover DE for 2 yrs.

A good thing about the place we bought a couple of years ago...snow removal. It's included in the HOA dues, along with trash and the other stuff. With the snow removed from the driveways, the bad guys can't tell by looking that you're gone.
It's also a 55+ community, so we've got lots of nosy neighbors, which is a good thing. They keep an eye out for each other.

We have two dogs in the yard that bark at anyone who approaches our house. I know it won't stop a determined burglar, but most are not, and those that are won't be slowed by an alarm system either.
