Snow on the ground and still cold. I would wait another month before heading this way.

Mission TX was fun and good although the winds did suck.
Gulf shores had great food but it was really cold in January
Florida from the 2nd week of January till now has not shown us much.
Michigan is starting to have 50 degree days and the perennials should be popping soon.
I don't know how you feel but this snowbird thing wasn't as advertised this year and we we will be glad to go home!
I agree. If this was my first winter snowbirding I would feel the same. I would probably never do it again. I remember one winter where I wore shorts and a t-shirt the whole time and it only rained ONCE the whole winter. If it was too hot I moved to the shade, too cold and moved into the sun.
I just BBQed a steak in Ft DeSoto and I had to put on my sweats and put the BBQ on a small table in the lee of my 5er. Every morning I check the weather on LI and where I am in FL. Sometimes it's only 5 degrees difference. One time it was 3 degrees. I keep printing out the 10 day forecast and tell my wife that next week it will be warmer. I've done this about 5 times now. I don't know why but she doesn't believe me any more.
Ed
Hey, Ed, I'm here at Ft De Soto too, on site 118a, but I'm leaving in the morning. It was as warm in Atlanta today as it was here. It'll warm-up, now that I'm leaving. This is still a nice place. I'm just glad I wasn't on a water site, with that northwest wind blowing.

Tom,
stay put. It's only in the mid 40's when the sun's out and mid 20's at night.
We've had temps in the 40's for the last 3 or 4 days and we still have snow all over.
I did have a cold beer on my deck the other day...
Happy trails,

Hey samsontdog, you didn't tell them about the hail storm we also had today around 2:15. Still beats shoveling snow, 200.00 plus monthly gas & electric bill along with a 50.00 monthly water, garbage & sewer bill. Last year I wore shorts and t-shirts almost every day, this year I didn't get to very often. But I'll be back next year as I enjoy hanging out with our snowbird friends from all over the US and Canada.

It was 68* at home yesterday...but I'm not ready to leave yet. IF it were up to me, I'd stay at least another month, and we've been here in the RGV since October. Guess we'll leave around April 1 as planned. Going home only means several "honey-do" projects which I'm not looking forward to. I'd much rather be on the golf course.

Looks like every snowbird from MI is chiming in on this one! We feel much like tomman58 as this is our first year and have tried AZ, San Antonio and now RGV. Really haven't been satisfied with either the CG's or weather anywhere. Starting home this Friday, but not in a great hurry. Should be home by the first week in Apr.

This was not a typical winter but things are looking up. It wasn't snow, so that's a plus. We'll be here until the end of April and that won't change. Don't despair about going south next year - this kind of thing shouldn't happen again.
After four months we're glad to go home too, but we're equally glad when October rolls around and we can head south for two months and then back for the holidays. December in NY gets us ready for four more months down here.

This has been a very hard winter for those that don't have the benefits of structures to help make life easier while on the road.
As much as I would like to start heading back north now, Joey says she would rather be doing what she did just a week ago:

Versus (what we just received via e-mail today) looking at this:
For all those heading back now, safe travels and enjoy all the conveniences that larger structures have to offer when you get back home. We'll be right behind you in a month or so.

We spent 10 weeks in the RGV and although the weather was not what we are accustomed to, we just adjusted our activities and still has fun. There are lots of fun things to do and 80+ temperatures are not required. We found the winds to be less strong this year and also there were fewer windy days.
We are currently on our way home but are taking the slow route East along the Gulf Coast. The temps are in the 60's and perfect for beach walks, visiting museums and sightseeing, bike rides, geocaching, etc. The weather at home is improving but we're in no hurry to get there - we enjoy exploring new areas and the jobs at home can wait for another couple of weeks.
For first time snowbirders - don't despair and make your plans for next year.

HA HA,, not laughing at you, just the idea. My wife and I usually go to Mexico, had planned Texas ..
I had knee and back surgery instead. Wonderful weather here in Oregon.. Go figure last year here, they had 2.5 snow and 6 weeks of freezing weather plus high winds.
As we watched on tv the south and SW get smashed we had our happy hours here on the deck in 65 deg sunshine..
Whew
