I have 2010 Montana and I winter in Yuma AZ. I want to leave my 5th wheel in the summer in Yuma. I need to know how to prepare it for the hot summer months. I have site that I will leave it on.
Thanks

If your leaving it exposed to the sun/elements....I would apply a generous coat of SPF 999!

Cover tires well and make sure covers and ties will withstand the summer winds. Make boxes out of plywood to cover shower dome, and roof vents if you don't have Maxicovers or similar covers over vents and refer roof vent. Place concrete patio block over each box. Tape sidewall refer vent by removing vent and taping the inside of vent. Do same with water heater door and furnace vent. Place silver foil insulation in windows. Put some water in toilet bowl with vegtable oil over top, then place Saran Wrap or Reynolds Plastic wrap over toilet bowl. Place 4 or 5 gallon milk jugs filled with water tru-out inside of trailer with caps off. Place these jugs in foil pans as the jugs can get small pin holes in them. You can also place 5 inch plastic rain gutter over your rolled up awning. If doing this make sure it is secured well. Disconnect batteries and make sure water level is good. My wife and I open several trailers up in October when arriving in Yuma for some friends in the park. It is amazing how "good to go" they are by doing the above items. If I can be of more help please PM me.

bobsallyh,
Great information and training for us new to RVing. We also put a coat of vasaline on the rubber caps that cover hose connections,
tv and telephone connections so they do not dry out. The vasaline is easy to wipe off.

The decals on the side of yuour rig will take the biggest hit. Have seen many simply begin peeling off. My opinion only; but if you have a choice, the depreciation your unit will take in that unrelenting sun compared to the cost of pulling it north wouldn't be worth considering.
Today is just the tomorrow you worried about yesterday!

We leave a Big Sky in Casa Grande. No big deal. Cover the tires ..... if possible shade the windows on the outside ..... foil on the inside will cause the thermopanes to leak. We cover hatch covers and skylight with aluminum foil tape from Home Depot ... no need to build boxes.

Do you have personal experience with this, or have any proof that dual pane windows will leak if covered on the inside?
What would you use to cover them on the outside? I can't picture how Relex could be applied to the outside of windows so that they would not blow away.
As for building boxes to put over vents and then putting concrete blocks on top of the boxes, what's to keep the concrete blocks and boxes from blowing off in a strong wind (and the Southwest can get strong winds)?

Blocks have stayed on here at the Yuma park we are in at 60-70 mph gusts. Never saw any even move. As far as the dual pane windows, no I don't have proof, but the person that is parked beside me called a window shop here in Yuma, and they emphatically said do not use Reflex on dual panes, any others you are good to go.

Also you can use sunscreen material outside the windows. Use push snaps or twist snaps.

Get a 1/2 dozen to a dozen plastic milk jugs & fill them with water. Leave the lids off so the water can evaporate.
That will help the interior some. I have several friend with park models that swere by it.
