Just curious........what is Costco's size restriction on mounting tires?

Our Costco in town said their tire machine cant mount any passenger tire larger then a 18 inch wheel. They dont have a machine to mount commercial tires and they will not mount by hand.

Per the Costco website;

Due to the high torque requirement for RV and large truck tires, tires 19.5" and larger can not be installed by Costco tire centers. A refund for the installation charge and disposal will be refunded at the time the tires are picked up.

Also Costco will not mount any tire that is not a factory spec size for your vehicle. So for example my Chevy Silverado factory size tire is a 225/75-16 and I now have a 285/70-17 on it. So they will not mount a tire on my truck. Even if they sell that size tire, they will not mount them on my wheels.

Hmmmmm.........my P30 with 19.5 only requires 150 lb ft stud torque.

The last time I bought tires I got them at Daniel's in Oxnard. they have a very good alignment capability and I got a fair price on tires.

I cant speak currently..but about 5 years ago...I did alot of looking before I took the plunge on 6 new tires(Costco didnt carry my size at this time) so I ended up at The Tire Guy/Man in Canyon Country, I think on Soledad Cyn Road? I got 6 new Remington's(295 75R 22.5) balanced and installed for just over 1800.00. Say what you will about the brand, but on my Vogue, they have provided good service(knock on wood). Good Luck NO one could even come close to that price, regardless of the brand!

Get your price at Costco. Then call Discount Tire/America's Tire....they will meet and beat the price that Costco charges. Also they will according to the Discount Tire by my house mount and balance RV tires up to the size you said. (275X80X22.5 16 ply) I have only seen class-c RV's at the Discount Tire Store by my house.

You will probably have better luck with Daniels Tire Service
Because sometimes these kids that sell tires try to get you in the door to make a sale.

keepingthelightson.....I've been having my tire work done at Daniel's in Oxnard. His prices are pretty high though. Even if you buy the tires from him, he still charges 50 additional dollars to mount and balance.

Here's what I did. I have a friend that owns a tire store. He called the local Goodyear warehouse in Sylmar and set it up so I could pick the tires up directly from the warehouse. The Goodyear's 255/80x22.5 G670's were $325.00 and I gave my friend an extra $20.00 a tire. By the time Daniels mounted and balanced them, I was still over a $100.00 per tire ahead.

You may not have a friend in the tire business, but you might try stopping in at one of the Goodyear dealers in SCV and do the same thing. Offer him $20.00 - $25.00 a tire extra. You'll still come out ahead. Obviuosly, check Daniel's proces first. They don't care if you bring in your own tires. I believe GoodYear is running their rebate again.

Side Note: They have a really good alignment guy who can do a 4 wheel alignment on motor homes. He set mine up perfectly....drove much better than new. $150.00.
