I just found out that the campground we're going to "requires" a sewer donut.

I'm confused, though. I bought http://www.amazon.com/Camco-39144-Easy-Elbow-Adapter/dp/B000BQWHDQthis last year. Does this eliminate the need for a separate rubber donut?

If I still need one, I keep seeing a "soft" ring and a "hard" ring on the 'net. Is one better than the other?

Also, are there any pictures of what one looks like on the sewer hose?

Thanks!

Usually whatever makes a tight connection is acceptable. If you travel enough, eventually you will find that you need both. Lots of different sewer hookups out there in the world.

What you purchased is fine for most cases but sometimes you find a site that has just a white plastic pipe sticking up with no threads on the inside. In those cases, you would put a rubber donut in the pipe and then the elbow that you have into the donut. That way you get a good seal. What the campgrounds are trying to avoid is people just sticking their hoses down the pipe. You can't get a seal that way and smells do come out.

Some campgrounds don't have threaded openings to the sewer connection, so they will ask you to use a donut. Just slip the donut over the fitting you bought, but it;s a good idea to have something to weigh it down so it seals. Some folks use a sand bag. If the opening is threaded then you have what you need already, all they are asking for is close as you can get to an airtight connection.

I've never encountered a campground that requires donuts that doesn't sell them if you don't have one. You have to love the ingenuity of built in sales .. LOL.

I've never seen this type but, it looks like it would do the job.
I think you should pick up a soft donut, they're about $5.00. Then you're covered for all situations.

I believe you will find that the local health departments are the ones that requires the air tight fittings.

Your connection should qualify. Just make sure you carry a tent stake or something to hold the connection firmly in the sewer pipe (your neighbors will appreciate it).

I have one similar to what you show. I have not found a campground yet that it did not work fine. Even the ones that just have a plain PVC pipe sticking out of the ground, one of the 3 threaded sizes on the fitting have always fit snuggly in the pipe.

Maybe snug but NOT airtight, which is the intent/requirement of local health officials.

Thanks, everyone!

I ordered 2 today - figured I'd get an extra one just in case.

With the attachment and the sidewinder I already have, AND now the donuts, I should be all set no matter what state we're in or what the requirement is!

Thanks!!!
