2. The dealer should check out the unit prior to delivery, that means a COMPLETE PDI. So, at our dealership, during the cold winter months, we do a complete PDI and then AS A COURTESY, To OUR valued customer, we ask if they want it winterized at our cost, not to them. WE do it once, we even will help to un-winterize when they decide to use it later.
3. YOU HAVE JUST FOUND OUT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BUYING LOCALLY AND THE OUT OF STATE GREAT DEAL FROM ANOTHER LOWER COST DEALER. They figure they will never see you again and to hell with the little things that designate a valued customer. Doug
you emphasized the OUR valued customers...is this also a "to hell with the rest" attitude?....appears to be IMHO, of course
NO, that means we do not nit pic little things and add charges for OUR customers that buy from us. During the winter, you ALWAYS check all systems and then winterize as a courtesy to prevent problems. I would NEVER trust any dealer, to state they checked out the water system and then winterized BEFORE I take delivery. I would expect it ready to go and then watch as they winterize so I would know how to do it. It does NOT take that long to winterize a unit. Doug

Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill!!!
The coach came from the factory winterized. The dealer will do a PDI, pre-delivery inspection, to make sure everything is working properly. This would include filling the water system and holding tanks. You would want this to happen as soon as the unit arrives in case any parts need to be ordered and shipped to make sure your delivery deadline is met. It is a simple request to see if you want the coach re-winterized. There are any number of reasons why a customer would forgo an walkthru and not want to use their coach right off the dealer lot, too many to list here. Not a good idea, but it happens.
Just tell the dealer that you will want to be able to have a full walk-thru on the coach on the day of delivery and this will include inspecting the operation of the water system and holding tanks. This was part of the deal you negotiated and you will leave it up to him as to how he will make that happen. Then if you are not going to use it right away, find out what, if anything, he will charge to winterize it again.
Really seems like a very reasonable request from the dealer. The glass is half empty crowd is grinding their axes and lighting their torches for really no reason here......

if they didn't offer you that and when you took it home and everything froze then you would be on their case. When you buy a car you add acessorries that the dealer installs and you pay for. Same thing.

Just for reference, mine was manufactured in May 2008 and was delivered to my dealer winterized. My previous rv (5th wheel) was the same, it was delivered (June 03) winterized.
I suspect the manufacturer may have winterized prior to delivery.

And as part of the dealer walk thru, and after your inspection, kindly ask them to demonstrate to you how to winterize your new RV
Like others have said, 10 minutes and 2 gallons of pink stuff.

That question bothers me a little. Assuming it was built in cold weather country and delivered to a dealer in cold weather country, would not any required cold weather prep have been done.
Maybe answer "Yes" as an insurance policy. That way if anything had been damaged you are covered. But when picking up the rig they will have to de-winterized it for your checkout inspection. Then I'd have them winterize it again just in case. Some extra expense for you, but the safest approach.
Strange situation.
