My 2004 Winnebago Journey on a Freightliner frame lacks only 1.5 inches of getting in my overhead door. My question is, is there a way to keep the air out of the air bags momentarly to just drive through the opening??? I am a new owner as of today and just looking for some help.
Thanks,
Don

I used to dump my bags occasionally, but not after I talked to one of the upper level Freightliner techs at a FMCA International meeting. He said the angle that the drivetrain enters the transmission is not the same with the bags down and could possibly cause problems with transmission seals---and that's exactly the problem I was encountering back then! Today's coaches start filling the bags immediately when you fire up the engine, but I do not, at any time, move mine without having the bags full.

Are you sure your garage door is opened to the max allowable height? There is a limited measure of height adjustment in most cases on garage doors. If your door is down past the max opening of the frame height you may be in luck. Contact a garage door company and have them come out and see if any adjustments can be made to allow for your needed clearance.

Foretravel tells us to dump the bags and ease in under a 12 foot door. I do not think that my motor or tranny move at all when I raise and lower the coach on the bags.

My HWH allows me to dump the bags and keep them that way even with the engine running. It might cause issues with linkage driving a distance, but this is only 40'

Again, is there a way to move without any air in the bags. Mine seems to start inflating as soon as I start the engine. All I need is a couple of inches...

I'd call Winnebago first. My Allegro Bus has an automatic system but there is a way to bypass it for maintenance. As long as you're just driving it into the barn, you won't have a problem with the drive train.
if Winne can't help you you could also try Freightliner Help line.

On my HWH system I have to hold the dump button and that is it. you can not drive far leaning over and pushing the button but it will work to get it under a door.
