Yes, just go slow and don't over heat the saw.

Good Grief, why go through all that stuff--find a mounting bracket at Radio Shack, West Marine etc. The receptacle may have to be accessed on a vertical plane but so what?

Chassis punches are expensive and depending on conditions, may be hard or impossible to use since you have to have "access" to both sides of the mounting surface.

If you know any electricians they will have a complete set of knock-out punches. Maybe you can borrow one.

West marine and others like NAPA may have more robust metal brackets.

Thanks everyone for the informative replies. I started out with an inexpensive hole saw set that I bought at Harbor Freight a while back. Since they were made for wood, the metal killed the teeth within a matter of seconds. I also found out that my 36V cordless drill did not have the power to do the job. I had to resort to my old AC drill.

I ended up buying a 1-1/4" Milwaukee hole saw & arbor at HD. By the time I paid for it, I should have just spent the extra $ and bought their Ryobi 6 piece set for $40...live & learn.

I didn't go with a right angle outlet bracket because there was no 90 degree angle to mount it to, where it would be out of the way.

In case some of you are wondering, "What the heck does he need a 12V outlet outside for anyway", I just bought a Winegard CarryOut portable satellite antenna, for times when my roof mounted dome is obstructed. The CarryOut has a 12V cig adapter plug, and I didn't want to have to run the power cable inside the coach.

Below is a photo of the completed install. The new outlet is the chrome piece right next to the water pump switch.

the punch shown in picture works well, used by electricians to cut
holes in metal boxes. They are kind of expenseive if you know an
electrician you might borrow one, they come in different sizes.

Yep... Hole Saw Set

And if you go slow and use lots of oil you don't need bi metal.

You should also use a deburing knife afterward.
