I am not sure, but I think it is because a goosneck is still only a BALL hitch, and can pop-off.

Hunting is not a hobby. It is much more life sustaining than that.

Don't know but it definitely uses a ball. We used to haul 22,000 lb of hogs in a double deck stock trailer and it did have chains.

Gooseneck is a ball hitch and required to have safety chains, fifth wheels are not required because it is a positive lock.

I've always wondered what the advantages of a gooseneck where over a fifth wheel other than the space required for the hitch. Are there any other advantages?

That's a BIG DEAL. Our Gooseneck hitch was able to lay flat BELOW pickup floor level, a 3 second effort. I had full flat floors available at any time I wasn't hooked up. Putting a bunch of 4X8 plywood or sheetrock sheets in a pickup was my biggest issue.

That makes sense... You see a lot of Horse trailers and the sort with goosenecks.

my understanding is goosenecks can handle heavier loads than 5th wheels can, true a horse/stock trailer are built heavier duty but I dunno my 5ver weighs 14,000#s its easy to get a horse trailer to weigh just as much???

That could very well be the reason. My 22' double deck hog trailer easily carried 22,000 lb of live hogs. These trailers went to 30' and longer and the 22k didn't count the trailer weight, just the "live" load. (pardon the pun) LOL
