Good morning,
As a Canadian resident we opted for not paying the Florida sales tax by taking an out of state delivery, Georgia.
Two questions:
Do we need to keep the vehicule for a certain period of time out of Florida or we can come back to spend few weeks , the temporary tag is good for one month?
The dealer referred us to a guy and the charges are 535$ to drive the PW Plateau to Georgia ( 200 miles) and then we can take delivery. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Has to be out of FL for at least 6 months. You may be asked for receipts to prove it, before you can apply for FL plates. You will then pay the new in state vehicle fee, plates, title charges. Where will you plate in the meantime?? Montana is cold this time of year.

Hi Alaian,
Where you take delivery has nothing to do with what, which US State sales tax is paid. But there may be some strange, odd situation that I am not familiar with or have forgotten at the moment.

Alain,
I think you have several issues to consider.
First, with your 30 day temp plates, you can drive it wherever you like in the US or Canada (not Mexico) provided you are properly licensed and have appropriate insurance coverage. The fact that you have thirty day plates may, or may not, indicate that you will have a Florida title (as differentiated from the license/regiatration plates).
If you did not apply for a title, then I HOPE you have the MCO (Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin), else you won't be able to title it anywhere. If you did apply for a Florida title, then you "may" need an inspection if the state/province you will eventually title the vehicle in requires such for a "used" vehicle. Most do so require.
Many states - and I think this includes Florida, but I'm not sure - separate the vehicle "title" from the "registraton"(the license plates). You can get a title without a regstration, but you can't get a registration without a title in the state you are registering.
So, I suspect you do have, or will have, a Florida title, but have only 30 day temp Florida plates. My suspicion is based in part on the likely unwillingness of the dealer to give up the MCO 'til they are SURE your check, or note, was "good". If I'm right, the dealer won't even apply for the title 'til they know their payment is "good".
Before the 30 days expire, you'll need to title and register the vehicle wherever you like - complying with their rules and regs. If you get beyond the 30 days, you'll need to park it.
And, second, a U.S. spec vehicle may not be OK with the Quebec province motor vehicle folks. I just don't know about that. I do know that PW (and Roadtrek) make Canadian spec vehicles and U.S. spec vehicles, and they are not interchangeable.
Best of luck, and enjoy your new unit.
Cheers.

May I ask what state are the temporary tags in? Georgia? or the state the dealer is located?
How long do you intend to run temp out of state tags?
Aren't you going to put permanent tags on the van within 1 month? If so, what state or province?
At some point withing a month, some state/province is going to want the sales tax and registration fees for you new van.

I think you will find by the time everything is resolved you will find it would have been much easier and have cost no more than to just give it up on the front end. I hope it works out for you.

Here in Kansas, if you are an out of state resident, you don't have to pay sales tax on a vehicle. That's because, they assume you must pay the sales tax where you live in order to get permanent license plate there. Since every state is different, why would you pay Florida when it's not going to be licensed there?
I purchased my van in Tennessee, but didn't pay sales tax there, I paid here.
I'd make a call to the Florida authorities and make sure about paying the sales tax at the dealer. You might find yourself out the money and a long way from Florida.

Alain1960,
If you have not yet closed the deal - i.e., paid the Florida dealer - I'd certainly call the Quebec Motor Vehicle folks to be SURE you'll be able to register a U.S. spec vehicle in Canada.
As you live in Quebec, I'd bet the Quebec motor vehicle folks will insist/require that you register only a Canada spec vehicle.
I don't think you'd want to consider what it may cost to "convert" a vehicle from U.S. specs to Canada specs.
It could be an expensive lesson
You might want to look here. http://www.saaq.gouv.qc.ca/en/vehicle_registration/outside_quebec.php

Dear '''retraite'''
I did a lot of research before. We (canadian resident) can import a Pleasure Way Plateau and here is the modifications/inspection required:
1.Recall clearance letter.
2.Valid alpha-numeric 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN)
3.Metric speedometer and odometer labels (provided by inspection centre)
4.Daytime running lights
5.French supplementary restraint system label for airbags that require periodic maintenance
6.Air bag equipped vehicles are required to have functioning air bags at the time of inspection.
The main thing is the Daytime running lights which should cost me less than 100$ to install.
You can visit www.riv.ca and will find the '''Importer Checklist''' tool to help you throughout the importing process.
