Can someone please help me. My 18 month old cat Peanut likes to eat plastic bags and shower curtains. I found a good size piece in his poop before Christmas and changed the bags that I have for garbage but it doesnt matter. Now he is eating the shower curtain. I am beside myself as I am afraid he is going to get blocked. Is he missing something in his diet? I know there is animal fat in some bags that attract some cats. He is the only one out of my 4 and the only one I know off that does this. Any suggestions?

Try switching him to a good canned food and add some animal fats to it. Unsalted butter is good and so are pork, chicken and beef drippings if not loaded with salt. It could also be boredom. Does he have company and plenty of toys?

My cats all like to chew plastic bags or anything similar in texture, though Thank God they haven't yet tried the shower curtain. I seriously doubt that there is a dietary need for this, they like the texture. One problem is that with house cats, they really do have a lot of free time on their hands. Toys, putting their food in a puzzle so it takes them a while to get it out... and of course putting away plastic bags and flipping the shower curtain up and over the rod will all help.
It is also a good reason to use re-usable bags instead of bringing home the plastic ones.

Peanut has 3 other cats to play with and many many toys. He is a very busy cat and goes and goes until he gets so tired that he cries to go to sleep.
I will try the dripings but he doesnt like people food and is not a great eater mostly ctunchies.
I do flip up the curtain but he can get on the back of the toilet and still get it. I use only a few bags as possible as I dont like adding to the mess of the environment.

When my uncle's dog did the same thing the bags were left laying with a mouse trap on them. He learned right away to avoid anything with a mouse trap on it.
It did not have to be set after the first time, just laid on what he was to consider off limits.
He was much bigger than a cat so maybe it would not be a good idea but than eating plastic bags does not seem like a good idea either.

Our two cats also like to chew on plastic bags but only the white ones from the stores. Not sure why they do it but haven’t been able to break them of it yet

How is Peanut doing? I've got one cat that likes to lick plastic, but thankfully so far she hasn't ever tried to bite it or eat it. (She has done this for years.)

My kitty loved to lick any bag that was plastic. Never figured it out.

Peanut is doing well. We have to hide all plastic bags from him--shopping bags, baggies, bread bags everything. He is a funny little guy. He only eats canned food every 3rd day but loves crunchies so he eats lots of those.
So far I havent found any plastic in the litter box so we are doing our best but when he doesnt eat it worries me that he might be full of plastic. Thanks for asking.

My kitten (3 mo) has a foot fetish. He rubs and rubs our feet and then tries to eat shoes. His favorite shoe is my pair of crocs. I now have big hunks out of both of them. try to put where he can't reach.
