Mine did the same after a carwash. I found that there was a little corrosion on the gas solenoid. It was the little wire with a ring terminal that comes from the solenoid and then ends at a threaded post right next to the valve. I took off the little nut and cleaned the ring terminal then reinstalled and tightened the nut back up. Worked perfectly after that. It seems as if some corrosion was preventing the circuit from working that opens the gas valve. Has worked perfectly ever since (over a year) and even after more carwashes. Now I turn the WH on after a washing to help dry that outer compartment behind the access door.

I just put the new ingitor on and it works perfect now! It lights up first time and stays lit.
