Yes, there are reservable sites at about half of the Yellowstone CGs. All but Fishing Bridge have no hookups. If that's ok with you, then Bridge Bay might be a good choice - fairly centrally located, especially for the lower loop, and many sites are in the open, so fewer worries about fitting in a 33' trailer. If you need hookups, Grizzly RV is great, and being in the town of West Yellowstone is close to the west entrance of the park, about 15 miles from the lower loop (Madison Jct.) Assuming Fishing Bridge will have utilities (again, I have not heard otherwise from an official source, but you'd be wise to check), they are well located for the south loop too. Sites a bit tight, but Xanterra should be able to advise which sites you'd fit into.
Your link shows a picture of a couple of sites there at Fishing Bridge & I clearly see an electrical hookup in the picture. In addition, we camped there the first week in September of 2009 & had electrical hookups! Perhaps they will be doing work there this year & will not have electric hookups but the article you refer to states that the sites do not have electric not that there will be no electric service this year. I state again, I was there in September & we had electric hookups! No matter what anyone says, that is a fact! I don't know if there is going to be a change for 2010 but I seriously doubt it. This RV park is not isolated, it is only about a half mile from stores & a gas station so the whole area has electric. I believe the article contains a missprint & after all it is an article on a federal government website & our government screws up a lot!
No one is disputing that you had electricity when you were there in Sept 2009. We had electric when we were there in 2002, 2006 and 2008. The fact is that it is not available now.
Xanterra has pulled the breaker on the electric system for 2010. They have long had electrical problem there as the service was built in the 60's for 20A trailers. Todays rigs use more energy than the system can provide and brown outs and outages are the norm for Fishing Bridge. As a result, Xanterra has chosen to shut down the electric system until it can be upgraded.

No electricity at Fishing Bridge in 2010 and my guess, no electricity in 2011 or 2012. The electrical system at Fishing Bridge was near a state of collapse. The liability and PR issues from low voltage conditions, black outs and brown outs have forced Xanterra (the concessionaire) to cease the electrical service. Anyone familiar with how the Park Service works will understand that the likely outcome will be three years of wrangling over exactly what can/should/will be done. It has taken 4 years to get a cellular and wifi plan for the park and the court challenges have just begun. There are major environmental organizations challenging the communication plan that will put WiFi service into some of the hotels and some of the campgrounds. These self proclaimed protectors of the Yellowstone experience somehow feel that having WiFi in your RV or hotel room will ruin the Yellowstone experience for all visitors. You can only imagine the outcry when it is proposed to increase the electrical capacity of Fishing Bridge to allow larger rigs. On top of that, the construction aspects will be extreme. It will require putting new wiring in the ground which will require digging up all those concrete pads, navigating all the water and sewer lines and installing new pedestals, all within a weather window of 5 months. There has been no announcement of construction for 2010 so I can't imagine electricity being upgraded and repaired in time for 2011.
Make a stop for a day or two in Cody, WY and visit the Buffalo Bill Historical Museum. It is world class. We stayed at the Absaroka Bay RV Park our last time out there. Nice, newer CG. Avoid the Cody KOA at all costs unless you plan on staying in a pup tent. They would site another rig under your awning if given the chance. Stayed on the south loop near Lake Yellowstone while in the park. No hook of course. Big brown bear, (aka Grizzly), came into the CG one night and caused quite the stir with the park rangers. And it did snow on us near July 1st. Enjoy your trip and take plenty of batteries for the camera and a good binocular is also a must.

It sounds like 3 hrs if theres alot of road construction and traffic. If its that much driving where do you guys gas up? Sorry but Im 37 years old and have never been there, nor my wike and children. They are all ages 8-13 and old enough to remember it so were goin. We visit eastern West Virginia so I can relate to the cold nights. We only have 2 weeks this year so i guess next year we will try the Tetons and the Northern loop.
I take it you are not real popular with your brother-in laws family. It is 50 miles from Cody to Yellowstone and 25 more to the "loop". That is 150 miles round trip every day that could be spent exploring the park. If power in a need, West Yellowstone or Gardiner are the two best choices, by far. The best plan is to get set up, stay there for your visit and travel by your tow vehicle to view the park. It is not worth it to move around with the RV to "get closer to the points of interest". One or two base camps are a better way to see Yellowstone. You could also set up a base in Grand Teton if you need time in that area.
Folks who already have reservations at Fishing Bridge have reported receiving emails alerting them to the fact that there is no electric service this summer.
The link above states that the sites only had 20 amp service & that the power will be upgraded to 60 amps. I had 30 amp service on my site & have never heard of a 60 amp rv service. It seems that the article above is inaccurate. Does this mean that the info about this year is incorrect? I don't know I can only say what I experienced camping there in September of 2009.

the 20 and 60 amp quotes are obviously incorrect, but the article is factual in that there will be now power at fishing bridge.

I guess everyone else on this post is wrong, just like the article, the Yellowstone Website, the Xanterra e-mails, the Xanterra phone calls, other articles in other publications etc. I am sure YOU would have electricity if you chose to visit fishing bridge this year since it is apparent it will be available to those in the know. That other information is obviously being put out there by people who wish to discourage the masses from staying in the park thus giving them more room. People like the Rockefellers, the Bildabergers and groups like the Illuminati have that kind of power. Another possibility is the private campgrounds around the park have banded together to put out false information to boost their income. Such a conspiracy would be easy for the powerful campground owners and their lobbying groups. Keep watching the internet posts and I am sure the truth will finally emerge, even groups as powerful as campground owners and world government cannot keep the truth hidden forever. Glad you saw through the red herrings and propoganda, enjoy your electric hookups in the nearly empty Fishing Bridge Campground. Sorry but I've got to run, the black helicopters are approaching.
