We use it alot in Ca. The only thing I notice is we will check the status online and there are no open sites, but on weekends we have reservations and are camped at the campground, there are always some empty sites. I think they need to get their cancellitions back up sooner and change their policy of holding the site for 48 hours with no shows.

I have noticed this also, but I think that those empty sites can be booked at the camp ground on a first come first serve basis but usually they are only available for one or two nights and then you have to vacate. It probably is too much trouble for them to put that site back in the reservation system just for one night so it some times sits empty in the park for that one night waiting for the next reservation the following day.

Love Reserve America and Recreation.Gov. Use both all the time. Never talk to a soul -- do all my reservations online. Never had a problem once we arrive either. Just a fabulous, fabulous system. Wish other State Parks used it -- like Georgia.

Mostly good luck. Just one time we booked a site in Colorado and it was a walk-in tent site! The camp hosts were great and let us keep the van in a parking spot and sleep there.

When we returned home I phoned the national forest and they apologized and had Reserve America change the site description.

But most of the time(99%) the experience is great. We use them for COE reservations, National Forest Service campgrounds and State Park reservations

Most people who register for hotel rooms online expect a discount, but you all seem to be happy to spend 50% to 100% more for the "priveledge",instead of talking to a real person. Of course we are senior citizens so do get discounts. Ha Ha. It's like people who pay to shop at a big box store, I refuse to pay either "fee". Our lifestyle is too free to be able to plan 3 days in advance anyway, the shortest time before arrival you can book.
