Yes, they compete with AT&T to see who can be the worst at customer service. Tell you one thing then send a bill for someting else. Bait and switch, nasty business people. Go get'um Judge!

I would like month-to-month service from them and are willing to pay for the equipment outright, but they don't want to do business in that matter, so they don't get mine.

All of those issues were pretty clear in the agreement I accepted with DTV. the problem exists because so many folks are nothing but "Headline readers". They read all the stuff in the bold print and ignore the rest when if they did just the opposite they wouldn't get any surprises.

About the only truly DECEPTIVE thing I got from DTV was the number of channels I was purchasing. They had a detailed list of channels and I DID get what they advertised but they failed to tell me I'd also get another 50 or so "junk channels" that I'd have to sort through to make the system usable. Once I did that the only problem is when I travel I have to do it AGAIN after each set up.

From my experiences they don't even APPROACH AT&Ts level of incompetent customer service so if that's their goal they're failing miserably.

I agree with Skipnchar all the junk that they"give" you and the trash you have to sort through.
I am sooo happy with my lonesome antenna with a stupid digital box, we get 25 channels 6 usable and watch TV about 2 hours a day.
Cost 0 buck and no hassle

Exactly. It's the same thing with all these foreclosed homes because people chose to ignore rising interest rates after 2 sweet years.

These sales tactics are only deceptive if you put the blinders on and read only the big print. Businesses do this because it works. These same customers believe diet pills work and Kevin Trudeau sells good books.

There may be some allegations in the suit that are provable, but any prudent person who is not in a hurry can figure out what's really going on. This isn't anything new. I've had nothing but excellent service from DTV.

It is not always clear, so don't be so judgmental. We had regular DTV and called to add HD. The person on the phone said nothing about moving it from a 1 year contract to a 2 year contract. When fees began skyrocketing we called to cancel and were told it would cost almost $500 to get out of it. This is lousy business practice.

Also, our DTV no longer works in our motorhome. Again, lousy!

By the way, I am a businessman and my wife is a business teacher. There is not always an ad to view or a document spelling it out.

one "deceptive" thing that I noticed in a Direct mailer was their offering an "exclusive set of programming available from Direct only". I looked thru the list and noticed that I had all of the interesting stuff already in my Dish account. Evidently what they do is get an exclusive arrangement with something like the "New England cricket league" and offer that in their package. then it is truly exclusive.
